For them, ignorance is bliss. They live in a dream world, like autistic kids.

Belief itself seems to zone people out to a level of bliss. Whether the belief is in God or as in God interpreted by a specific religion doesn't seem to matter much.
For the mentally stable, the bliss doesn't last! Either their fear of death keeps the faith high, or they engage in works which show them the human spirit, or they come back down to earth. If they crash back to reality, they may frantically try a couple of different religions to get the feeling back.
The mentally unstable can hang on to bliss through various means which are alien to me.
Belief itself does tend to bring people into membership in a religion, and religions themselves are inherently quarrelsome nad ultimately have a great potential for violence (especially through the methodology of jingoism and patriotism as justifications for a conflict).
World War I caused a pop of religions in Europe, the most patriotic of which have engaged in a steady perpetual decline since. If the middle eastern conflict widens into a more general war, I believe the evangelical and pentacostal churches in the USA will peak and steadily , steeply erode in support. If wars don't bring paradise nor coax the Messiah into returning, they serve to dishonor the churches which "prophetically"emphasizes and encourages the conflict.

An insult in pretty wrapping is still an insult. By calling religious people handicapped, you do nothing to make yourself and you beliefs look any better.
People have a choice to become religious and they choose what they do with it. If they *choose* to be ignorant of reality, then so be it. They just should force it on others. That is the true punishment if there is no god of any sort, that all those that died in his name and were ignorant to *life*, wasted theirs.

Most religions rely on ignorance, superstition & fear. Which makes adherents easily susceptible to being convinced to engage in all manner of inappropriate behavior, including supporting unwarranted violence & wars.
The underlying problem is that humans are animals like any other animal and religions tend to teach adherents that humans are not animals. Which causes conflict when biology (animal urges) overcomes the delusion that humans are special.
Since they cannot be reconciled, some people become "insane" because they do not acknowledge or recognize their own animal nature.

Yes...Religious believers, just as everyone else, is very blessed with an awesome gift...the ability to allow our spirits to experience Who & What They Really Are.
However...donot believe everything you read...no matter what source it stems from....books, like all things in life here, are simply tools to use toward spirit growth & being...not humanness, which encompasses "challenges" of such...all have their own purposes & desires, so do not judge..rather take what rings true to YOU & leave the rest.

Some religious people do act strange, and have weird ways of doing thing, again the key word here is RELIGION. Christians do not act that way, they try to follow Jesus's example, and Jesus was a loving man, that only did good things.

Religion....that word alone should bring fear into anyone. When you belong to a religion you take another persons conception of truth, therefor when you think on your own you are no longer welcome. Knowing God and learning Spirituality have nothing to do with Religion. Religion to me is a form of entrapment for those who can't see clearly for themselves.

okay, im an atheist. but lets get something straight....
one can believe in a god without having a religion. so the gods people believe in do not cause wars, it is the religions them self. religion is bad, but believing in a god is not.

I would say "cursed". They have willingly given up the only thing that makes us humans rather than animals -- the ability to think. And what could be worse than that?

I kind of think that they have just kind of slipped off the conveyor belt of evolution. Swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool, so-to-speak.
