I used to live out east and I've always wondered how some of the more oddly named towns came to be. Does anybody know how some of the more weirdly named English/New England town's names were thought up?

Does anybody have any more entertaining ones to share?

I have known quite a few people in my life that have been vindictive. It used to hurt me when they did it, but now I just find it utterly pathetic. Like it's somehow a sign of weakness or a character flaw.

What do you think? Why are certain people more vindictive than others? And do you think it's more prevalent in one gender or the other?

-They rape women.

Cases where women rape men are rare, and they usually occur by women who were raped by a man!

-Men are expected to be agressive physically.

There are several more cases of men abusing their wives than women abusing their male counterparts.

-Men are expected to be more callous emotionally. They usually also state that they only want sex. The porn industry is also usually geared to suit a man's desire.

I am known for my anti-social behavior, its hard to break this habit but I need to. I went to an all girls christian high school, my parents were extremely strict and so I was not allows to have a lot of friends or socialize with guys until I left home for college at age 18. Now that I am out of college I am literally scared of meeting new people, I am afraid of socializing with guys especially in numbers. I have 3 best friends now all long distance and this is the way I like it because I hate to socialize. People mistake my anti-social behavior for being stuck up. I really want to change this, but how do I start to become more sociable and do not come of so stuck up?

lpease tell me? Like, for me for example, i think by the time i hit 11 and like 10 months, i would think the same way, or view the world the sam way i do now. like sure i grew up a little, as you do ALL the time regardless of how old you are right?

So why is it that ppl make a big deal about 13? Me and almsot everyone i know (who are 12-19) all wonder the same. the "its the same sheeez=not" kind of thing lol xD

Anyhow, is it jsutthe media? Is it just outside of the REAL wor;d that it is this way?

It some twiosted way, it makes me feel like i havent been lving my years 'correctly' which is kinda what the whole '13' thing is making a alot of kids feel.

Anyone agree?

Had my grandchildren both in my car. Was driving from their house to the motel where they were going to stay with me overnight. It was about 8:30 PM or so. I decided to go around the residential areas of the city, and look at the Christmas lights on lawns. There was a car that came up behind me, and I felt it was too close to my rear bumper. So, I tried to get closer to the side of the road, so it could go past me.

Other car didn't pass. Stayed on my tail. I got to an area where there was a lot of ice by the road's edge. So, I moved further out onto the road. Soon as I'd passed the ice, I went back to the edge.

I wanted to go down this little side street, but the car behind was so close, I was afraid it would hit me if I braked to turn. I'd already had my turn signal on. So, I didn't turn there.
I turned a block later. Other car, still tight on my tail, turned, too.

I wanted to double back on the next street down, to see some pretty lights. But now I am

Most of the americans dont know anything about canada while canadians know lots about the U.S. Why are there so many stereotypes against us? Such as we always say eh, we are arctic and its freezing here, all we do is play hockey&curling, and make maple syrup. Our country is pretty much exactly the same as the united states so why do you guys assume all this stuff& make fun of us all the time? I dont understand why...

I have always since just as a little boy imagining that my thoughts started from my head(of course they do its really the brain that creates thought), perhaps because the perceived world seems to end right at the eyes, and anything behind the eyes is the perceiver, but I am sure that my sense of thought origination was not due to current science but just raw intuition. In light of the fact that ancient people believed that thought originated from the heart, I am interested if anyone has any information on how this idea was generated but more importantly whether this conflict about the feeling that thought starts from the head is not just an illusion created to fit the current knowledge that we have now or not. Any information would help!

First off let me state that I don't want to debate the existence of extraterrestrials. Whether you believe in them or not, simply for the sake of the question go with the assumption that they are real and they initiate contact with us.

Now going with that assumption do you feel we are ready? How would you react, what would you think? How do you think others would react and think? How do you think contact with aliens would effect our cultures, religions, economies, science, technology, etc? And let's also just go with the assumption that it was peaceful contact and not some war/invasion scenario. As I'm sure we can all agree would completely change everything.

Question from an old soldier. Does the Armed Forces Radio Network still play Christmas Carols during the Christmas Season? I ask because people here seem to be trying to get rid of all mention of 'Christmas' on the airwaves. They were a comfort to me on the 'Grenz' at one time so I am naturally curious now. This is not a trick question, I am a retired First Sergeant and I would like to know.

Every Christmas people talk about helping those who suffer! It is right under their noses, but they choose to ignore it. Hell, they will even add to the suffering of their own relation! They only see it if it comes in society's accepted charitable forms of a soup kitchen or a shelter? I've been caught in a financial prison, ostrasized by my family fo so many years. My nieces and nephews kept from me because I am not Christian! Taken for granted for years. My every contribution in this life, even cooking for others, gifts, all tossed away. Rich relations even look away, but puff themselves up by giving to charity. But cannot give of themselves to their own relation!

Is there anywhere in this world where I can find someone who can value me and my contributions? I've no where to go, no money. Yet there are people with millions.

Why does this inequity exit? Is everyone in a position to help without compassion? Why go on in such a selfish world?
