I live in Toronto that is a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy easy answer. It has to with the media. There is not much Canadian Content airing in the United States. However conversely there is a exuberant amount of American Media Coverage not only in Canada but across the globe. The United States is the epicentre of the world's media landscape. Even BBC News to Al-Jazeera and almost every new broadcaster has outlets in America. America is unquestionably the most powerful nation on the planet, (while it does have it's flaws, mostly it is a good country). It's power has been amassed through it's military and media. It's also more Patriotic to promote a stronger American image through the means of a weaker foreign image, in our situation Canada. It happens all the time. Even the British people are portrayed to have fair skin and bad teeth, Chinese people as being all poor communist farmers, and french people eating croissants and wearing small hats. It's just ignorance, through not fault of the American people. It's just the media's fault. The nationalism gets way over their head. But it's ok, America is still a good country. Just needs to reform the education system among other things.

It's not exactly being stereotypical, it's just being ignorant. I'm an American, and I agree that most Americans aren't exactly "open-minded." In fact, I only know the first two words of the Canadian National Anthem (OH CANADA), but don't say we're stereotypical, cause you sound pretty stereotypical yourself. No offense.
Hope I Helped!

I have never heard of any of the stereotypes you mentioned, but perhaps that is because I live near the Canadian border and I can see Canada outside my office window. FYI, America is just like Iran: We don't have homosexuals.

Because of ignorance. US poors out tons of media: television, movies, etc, so many people around the world know what America is like. But we don't get as much from Canada, and when we do (like a movie), it seems "American", so no one thinks of it as being Canadian.

We, as Americans, have a generally stable environment around us, and as a country, we're very powerful. This equates to not caring much about the world around us. I honestly know virtually nothing about Canada. Sorry.

Just stupidity !!! Sometimes people don't take the time to get to know others, so they just judge them. This is so wrong, but it happens, nevertheless. Hey, just overlook them! That's their loss.!!!
