The hand is much heaver and has less give than a belt or strap. The hands are for holding hugging and helping and should not be used for discipline. That is why the bible say not to spare spanking a child.

It really depends on the child and parent relationship!! No true loving parent wants to inflict pain on there child, but sometimes pain is the only thing that can bring the message to reality. As I was growing up I got spanked with a belt, but what hurt worse was seeing the disappointment on my parents faces. I guess what I am trying to tell you is this, first try a heart to heart, and let the child know that if problem does not go away more extreme measures will be taken. Punish with love, not anger...

i don't think spanking is the right answer. i know when i got spanked, it made me more angry than remorseful, so then i'd try and get back at my parents in some way for it. i'm not sure what it says in the bible about it, but there are plenty of other forms of punishment such as grounding, not going to a place you promised to take your children or not giving them a certain toy or game they wanted, or making them do extra work around the house, etc. i'm not saying that spanking is unethical or that it's abusive, although it can become abusive if you are taking your anger out on the child instead of punishing them. all i can say is use whatever method you find effective on your child that is ethical and non-abusive, cool down for a few minutes if you have to, because you should NEVER take your anger out on your child.

I live in GA and it is NOT illeagle to use a belt, a hand or a paddle.

And the bible says to "spank your child it may very well save their lives."

I believe in spanking and it is different for each child as to what works so do what works on your child.

And spanking is not child abuse! Not spanking and wounding up with unruly children is!

Use the hand, I for one would never have went to my parents with any of my bigger problems if they had ever spanked me with a belt. I suggest not to hit ur kid at all. My dad spanked me lots of times, I was little more on the sensitive side and couldn't look him in the eye for years, let alone really talk to him. My mom barely ever did, only when I was acting really bratty, and we have a great relationship. I'm not scared to go to her wiith anything and we're best friends. My dad and I have a weak bond. I've always felt at heart that his love was conditional and of poor quality.

You could spank a child with a cooked noodle and accomplish your task if the reasoning behind it and your attitude convey the meaning. My youngest daughter wouldn't listen about getting in the street. The closest thing was a little tree branch and I gave her a swat with it. My previous warnings combined with the surprise of a stick did the trick. I personally believe in "Responsibility and Reward." If the child can do right, right should be extended to them. It's more about respect. The Bible says, "Spare the rod and spoil the child," but I don't believe that means to beat kids for any infraction. Discipline has many forms and it's young minds we're dealing with here.

Why and how can you even consider using a belt or strap ??? Use your hand !

I know people would say dont hit your child but if you dont give a good spanking for misbehaviour from time to time, they get realllly spoilt and they grow up to be indisciplined and uncontrollable.. And dont overdo on the spanking, that will count as abuse..

i dunnno about what the bible would suggest ....but from personal experience a belt or strap hurts like a son of a gun and a hand will get the point across.....

A parent does not "have" to spank their child. That only means you've lost control of a situation and have to resort to corporal punishment. It only builds resentment and they may hit back someday!

eye for an eye....from bible

What? Don't spank your kid. Doesn't the bible or someone say you should discipline your child with one hand, but draw them closer with the other?
