The short definition is that white privilege is the (multi-faceted) advantage of being white. An advantage not earned but given with birth and mostly unnoticed by those with the privilege, but very much noticed by those without it.

If you don't believe it exists now, do you believe it ever did, and if so, when?

If you do believe it exists, be concise and show examples to help aid understanding.

First, a couple of observations:

Since the late 70s, when I was in my single digits, it seems to me that society has gradually become much colder, more distant and ill-mannered while becoming less compassionate toward each other as time has passed.

Schools appear to teach more advanced classes, yet our society seems to be more and more "dumbed down" each day - especially if you are to believe the images that the media presents of Generation Y.

Finally, I need to add I'm not a fatalistic freak who focuses on the morbid. The glass is neither half full nor half empty...it's just half. With that said, my questions are:

Do you feel some specific event or series of events in the last 30 years set in motion changes that have made society more self involved and desensitized?

If so, what event(s) do you feel were behind the change?

Given our current state of affairs, where do you think the country will be in 10 years? 25? 50?

For example, how can people be surprised when there are murders, drug usage, cheating, violence, shadiness and all sorts of atrocities in society, when society brings it on itself? We're uber-materialistic, we all live in our own dream-dealistic-worlds, devoid and ignoring of all reality, not ONE of us really cares about the next guy or people who have it bad, or contributes to ANYTHING good out there, and yet we expect society to magically be this great and pretty place, and we then b(tch when things don't go our way.

Things are going to spiral downward until people start shooting each other on the highways, and start fighthing and it all turns to ****.

WAIT, they already do, it's called L.A.

People and society especially in America, is evil. That's right. Evil. It's ALL about profit, money, status.

The rich and powerful are pretty much evil, and judge others and what not. The poor pretend and connive, or just get frustrated and angry.

it's all bs, so why the surprise?

I just learned from someone who worked there that Borders (and probably other big book chains) don't recycle their outdated magazines. It makes me sad and mad both! You'd think that by now it'd be a no-brainer.

And I can say from my own past employment experience that Bath and Body Works recycles its cardboard cartons but not any of its plastic shipping material.

Doesn't this bother anybody who can do something about it?

At Target there is a 10 pack of little barbies from around the world of course in traditional dress. When I saw the American barbie she was blonde and wearing a cowgirl outfit. Which got me thinking. If you had to draw what Americans look like what would you draw. Americans have so many cultures I couldn't picture just one type that fits all so I want to know what you think.

My Christmas Wish

Christmas is approaching us
And blinking lights appear
What I wouldn't give right now
To hold my sweetheart near
Not a single candy cane
Could be as sweet as you
Santa Clause can't make me laugh
If your not near me too
Please come home this Christmas Eve
You'd warm me like a glove
Hold me close into the night
This Christmas, be my love.

I don't really trust people unless they're in my family. Its really hard for me to trust... I barely even trust my best friend. Sometimes I think that I need to make it through life on my own without the help of others. Anyone else like that?

Do you think its better not to trust people than to trust people?
