What do you consider an alcoholic?

-Someone who has a physical dependence on alcohol.
-Someone who can not have a good time without alcohol.
-Someone who's been told, repeatedly, that they drink way too much and need to cut back, but don't.
-Someone who has had multiple DUIs, arrests for public intoxication, or any other run in with the law that involved alcohol.
-Someone who tries to hide their drinking habits from others by drinking alone, trying to cover up the smell of liquor on their breath, hiding alcohol in their home/car, and/or by "disguising" their alcoholic drink as something else.

Often alcoholics have more than of the these traits.

From experience an alcoholic may not drink every day, in fact they may sustain sobriety for many months or years. But after any length of time any attempt at trying to drink "normally" will most likely end in a complete mental and physical sickness which once again will be replaced and made worse by spiralling down through the bottom of another barrel while clutching a bottle and losing a battle with delirium tremons.

I've seen plenty of alcoholics in my time so I have a pretty good idea of what is one. An alcoholic is someone who simply can't stop at one drink and has to keep on consuming them until he or she is drunk. The choice of alcoholic beverage doesn't really mean much. I've known people who only drank beer but insisted they weren't alcoholics. My late mother-in-law only drank beer but she would drink at least a six pack every day.

Someone you see with alcohol in their hands every second. Doesn't matter if their talking, driving, talking while driving, singing, excersising......always gotta have alcohol.....
