I want to give my boyfriend's mother in Japan a nice gift from America, what would be a good gift? Some house item, or fashion accessory or nice gourmet gift.... something classy and particularly American. Can you think of anything? I wanna spend $30-70.

I think so. I don't buy the argument that God is impartial to good and evil around the world and I believe that America is certainly good. But what do you think? Is the idea of God blessing America bigoted?

So I was reading along in a paper and I was wondering what these 2 statements really mean. Maybe someone here can explain?

So for multiculturalism to work, 1) The native-born must accept immigrants as equals and 2) new arrivals must demonstrate a willingness to join mainstream society by adopting the fundamental mores and values of the prevailing culture.

I also would like your opinion on this...thanks!

Since the parents of young children in this day and age are NOT being proactive in teaching their children right from wrong and proper manners, do you think an Eitiquette class in early grade school would be effictive? Or a class about respect? Or something like these?

Someone asked me for a ride home, and I said yes. When we are walking to my car they are like, what kind of car do you have, and I go a 2004 Mustang GT. They go, I dont like the way mustangs because I heard they dont drive good.

Then we get in the car, and I am like... I hope you like Linkin Park because that is what we are listening to. They go I hate Linkin Park.

Long story short, by the end of the ride they go, wow this car drives really good and I really liked the music!!!

They judged before they knew what they were talking about!

Dont you hate when people do that?

Just had a baby boy, and my mother came to the hospital and handed me a gold coin, with no explanation. I think I was supposed to understand, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I imagine it has something to do with prosperity in the child's life, but I'd like to know where this tradition comes from and what exactly it signifies. If it helps, my mother's family is British.

I live near a mall called Mayfair. It is probably the best near where i live, in terms of variety of stores, and the general niceness of it. its very well decorated and maintained. however, it does have a slightly higher crime rate than most malls in the area. As a result of this, sometime come spring, new rules are being put in place. anyone who looks like they are under 30 are going to be carded, and if you are under 18 or "look like you are going to cause trouble" you can be denyed admittance. this is all in attempt to reduce crime. however, i happen to think its a little extreme. the majority of the stores in the mall are not stores that anyone past the age of about twenty four would shop in (some people do, but not many). does anybody else have rules like this in place at their malls? i think its a bit extreme and they are probably going to loose a lot of money because the majority of people shopping there are teenagers. your thoughts?

reckon it'd be pretty hard to get rid of fightin totally but if there were stringent rules in place (lets forget about how these would be enforced) to only allow hand held blades (swords, knives) and simple bows in combat think people would be less inclined to fight? seein the enemy up close like that. could it be more 'noble'?
