Since the parents of young children in this day and age are NOT being proactive in teaching their children right from wrong and proper manners, do you think an Eitiquette class in early grade school would be effictive? Or a class about respect? Or something like these?

No. No religion. Just plain "Golden Rule" material.

I agree that these things should be taught in the home, but they're NOT! That's why I suggest this.

maybe it would help in some ways, but how do you define respect and etiquette, one family is different from the next, I grew up in a house where we chewed with our mouths closed, I had a friend where it was ok to chew with your mouth open, besides it should not be up to the govt. to teach right and wrong, I live in China and see the negative side of govt. being too involved in daily life, maybe there needs to be a campaign to encourage parents to get involved in their kids lives, good question, food for thought

While it would probably be helpful, teaching Children manners and respect is the job of the parents. Currently, teachers have enough to cover without this being added to the curriculum. Personally, I feel parents who don't feel the need to teach common courtesy to their children should be forced to teach a class of like minded children for a week, and see what a problem the lack of respect has become.

It's not that it's necessarily a bad idea...it's just that stuff like this should be taught at home. Ex. There are a lot of schools that try to teach values such as tolerance etc. but if the child is still hearing intolerant remarks at home, they will not accept what they are being taught in school.

Wow I never thought about it but I think it could be a very good idea. Even those that learn at home. Some learn to read at home too.

i agree with u but no parent will ever go to these meetings. i hate the fact that parents these days care bout the car they drive, jewelry they wear, and clothes they buy instead of takin care of their spoiled kid. but i repeat no parent will attend bc their never gonna admit they did somethin wrong

I think that some kids learn it at home and wouldn't need it in school. Other kids, however, may need it. Those kids should be put in the ettiquette classes.

I'd say teachers should be doing that too (at least I do).
