To punch someone very hard, knocking them to the ground in some cases - hence "deck", to "deck" someone as in putting them on a deck.

Johnny decked Tim, and he fell to the floor his face bleeding.

It started on a Navy Ship like when two crewmen got into a fight one of them had to be "decked" or out cold on the deck of the ship.

Punch someone so they 'hit the deck i.e the floor. I guess it is from sailors language when they got into fights they 'hit the deck' of the ship.
Also to 'hit the decks' is to strat cleaning or get down to a job as well.

It comes from sailors since they are notorious for fighting. When you hit someone, presumably you would knock them out and they would "hit the deck" of the boat. My Grandfather told me about it.

deck/floor someone means assault in some way that lands them flat on the ground(deck). i think it originated with sailors as they are the only ones to have a deck. other people say floor.
