I'm an Arabic student, and I'm interested in learning Arabic fluently, as well as Hebrew and Hindi. Well, anyway. What I wanted to ask, was, could someone tell me basic words in Hindi? Spelling in English text, since I can't read Hindi text yet.

Yes, no, please, thank you, simple things like that... Anything that comes to your mind that would be necessary in every day life, but only as much as you'd like to share.

ok, so i just got this new CD of this mexican group and they pronounce all there B's like V's! (the english sound of B and V i mean) I was always told to pronounce B and V the same, as a B sound, like "voy" = "boy" (phonetically i mean) and now they are doing the opposite. Is this common in Mexico? or a new trend or something! Anyone know anything? Thanks!

Today I read that there is a language with seven tones (HELL for non natives!!!), but it didn't say what language is that.

And... is seven the limit? Is there a language with even more tones?

Alright, simply put, I would very much like to learn Japanese, Kanji, Katakana, and Hiragana. I had already heard of Rosetta Stone before and thought I would check it out. Apparently it says you can learn the spoken language, and all three written languages. However, I've been browsing around here in Yahoo Answers for other people who have asked the same question and have read mixed responses. Basically, I'm a very visual person, I've got a freaking photographic memory, and I grasp language well. So, would I be able to learn, and at least become fluent at an intermediate level, with Rosetta Stone?

I'm currently learning Spanish. I was reading something, and the word "calabaza en tacha" came up. I know that "calabaza en" means "pumpkin in", but what is tacha? I looked it up (as well as some similar words) in a dictionary and it can mean all sorts of things...eraser, tin, a challenge, a mistake,a condemnation....etc.

If you want the full context, here is a link to the reading I found the word in:

http://www.colby.edu/~bknelson/SLC/ofrendas/oaxaca_new.php

It's the fourth sentence from the bottom.

Thank you!

notice the learning the language, not the actual french. i have always had the worst teachers for that class. we get a new one every year and for the past 5 years i've hated it. why does it suck so much?

I am learning French, and I had a question on how possessions work. I understand that

"I am my father's son."
would be
"Je suis le fils de mon pere."

I am curious if there is an equivalent way to say this in a possessive sense, such as "father's son" with the apostrophe. I don't know if
"Je suis mon pere son fils."
is proper. I'm guessing not. That sounds more like
"I am my father his son."

Anyway, if you know the proper way of possessions here I'd appreciate knowing.

(I didn't include the unique marks on some of the letters in French, but I do know they belong there.)

okay, if you combine 'mis' with 'con', you get 'conmigo'....
and 'si' plus 'con' equals 'consigo...

how would you make the english words 'with you' like the ones above, with the 'con' and then the 'usted' (i think it is)
