I was doing a lesson on Rosetta Stone French level 1, and I came across 2 sentences I didn't understand. The first one was

Une jeune fille fait du cheval

and it shows a picture of a girl riding a horse, and the next one is

Deux homme font du cheval.

and it shows 2 men riding horses. I thought it would mean ride, but I don't know if that makes sense. And can you also explain why the sentence means what it does? Thanks.

For instance, my friend says she used to "wear my sister's handy-downs." (Instead of Hand-me-downs). Another lady I know complained about me seeing her house dirty by saying "what swallow we live in." (instead of SQUALOR).
