Burgundy is in the middle of France and has four counties--Saône et Loire, Nivère, Cote d'Or, and Yonne. When visiting, one can see the Musee de la Vie Bourguignonne, the Musee d’Art Sacre, the Ducal Palace, and le Parc Buffon, as well as others.
In 1430 the Burgundians captured Joan of Arc.
The trumpet was invented in Burgundy. Burgundy also hosted the first diamond engagement ring.
Interesting places to visit: The Burgundy Canal is over 250 miles long and changed French social evolution. Vezelay, Chateau de Comarin, and Abbey Fontenay are castles located in Burgundy.
Wood-frame merchants' houses remain from the 15th and 16th centuries as well as two fine churches dating from the 13th century. Notre Dame, begun in 1229, is an excellent example of Burgundian Gothic architecture and has a well-preserved, elaborately carved exterior. The university was established in 1722. Saint-Michel church (15th-16th centuries) is a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance architecture.
