I live in a very cosmopolitan city, to which I see a variety of nationals on a daily basis. Specifically, I would like to know what can I say to Indian people as I'm passing buy, something they wouldn't expect a foreigner to say. So basically, I would like to know something else that is interesting and friendly to say rather than the ususal and boring 'hello.'

This is a part when Eragon builds a makeshift house on a rowan tree for a baby dragon to keep away from his cousin and uncle

on page 41, it saids " With a few deft movements, he made a noose and slipped it over the dragon's head as it explored the snowy clumps surrounding the tree. The leather was worn, but it would hold. He watched the dragon crawl around, then untied the noose from its nexk and fashioned a makeshift harness for its legs so the dragon would not strangle itself".

what i don't understand is the part that "noose".. why does Eragon use noose and slip dragon's head when he is building a little house on a rowan tree for a dragon, and what is makeshift harness for legs..?

i am english learner, and this book is kind of hard..

plz tell me what that means.. i am reading over 10 times, and still not get it..

I speak english and a little latin, so that is what I think in. My friends who take spanish think in english and spanish. You know how it is... if you are thinking you can kind of hear in your mind's ear the sentences that you're composing. But what if you are deaf? You would not know how it sounds. If all you know is sign language or something, then do you think in sign language?

I had taken a beginners class of Mandarin my first year of college and got through it pretty well at the age of 17 with no continuation of it afterwards.I am now 22, I speak English (native) and Turkish (both fluently), I plan to spend the next three summers in Beijing whilst studying Mandarin in the States. How long do you think it would take me to learn to speak fluent Mandarin and also to write proficiently? Thank you.

My wife (american) wants to learn Hindi. She thinks writing is a bit intimidating but would like to learn how to listen and speak.
Is that even realistic or is reading/writing a must?
Can you suggest any good books/software/online classes etc?
