I have read alot of Blogs lately and it seems that most bloggers don't use good spelling or grammar. I have noticed that they don't pay attention to detail. Their spelling is wrong, their grammar is wrong, and the context of the word is wrong, too. Don't they know that improper use of their NATIVE language makes them look stupid and uneducated?

Yoruba is a Kwa language in the Niger - congo family in the Afro-Asiatic phyllum but I'd really like to know which language it originated from as this will shed more light on the still controversial origin of the Yoruba who constitute about 1/3 of Nigeria's over 120 million population.

I was having icecream with my son yesterday, who is 1/2 white, not that it matters but he doesn't look all that hispanic... anyway... and this elderly caucasion couple came up to us and were just oohing and awhing over my boy eating his ice cream. I smiled and told them hello and the man said VERY loudly (like if they speak up you'll understand them) "Hablas ENGLISH" I was like, yes sir".

I don't really know how to take that. I mean to you assume the same thing. I know they meant no harm by it, but it's just a little degrading to me... like I don't look like I could possibly be bilingual. And by the way, I don't speak a lick of Spanish! (I know, I know)

Thanks for your comments!

C'mon - what's the big deal? If a word is spelled wrong, do you miss the point of the question? Or do you just feel the need to whine & complain about nothing?

I like French, France and most French. But the French themselves seem to believe that their language for English speakers is [1] preciser, and [2] harder. OK! I'll concede [1], but only just. As regards difficulty, I think the French are just plain wrong. French is not a highly inflected language and the word order is, by and large, simple for most English speakers who want to learn that language. Also, many Modern English words have a Romance provenance. So, to what extent am I out on my own with this one? Are the French right in saying their language is hard? Answers from those English-speaking folk have more than one foreign language are especially welcome.

It comes from the time of vinyl records (or maybe the earlier version ) that are now only used for hip-hop sounds effects. They have a very small groove running in a spiral from the outside edge to the middle and would spin around on a turntable, which was connected by wires to an amplifier and speakers.

When a special needle (ideally tipped with a diamond, for better sound, attached underneath the end of a kind of "arm" or lever) was placed by a person "in the groove" you could hear the music. If your hand was not steady and you missed the groove, you would hear scratchy sounds and possibly ruin the record.

Later they invented turntables that would drop the needle for you in the right place.

So... "getting in the groove" literally meant being able to hear the music, meaning you would be in a good mood also, as you had been successful at operating the equipment. These days, it is easy with CD's etc. You don't know how lucky you are! That's history for you!

Today I read a sentence in a book:
He is over 50 but he is so slim that losing weight is not a problem for him.
I think this sentence is against common sense. Usually losing weight is not a problem for a fat person not a slim person.
