C'mon - what's the big deal? If a word is spelled wrong, do you miss the point of the question? Or do you just feel the need to whine & complain about nothing?

spamandham - blame the spell check, it didn't detect the "-"....

You can check spelling on the question being asked, but not the details...

Also the last line of my original babble can be bought on tshirthell.com - IF you are easily offended, I DO NOT recommend that site for you!!!!

Elgil - at a level 6 - did you mean to spell "right" wrong on purpose?

2006-09-07 03:59:32 · update #3

BH - also at a level 6 - while we are communicating can you tell me just what the heck this means? "if you do not communicate effectively others will not understand or not believe you seriously want the information you have inquired about."

2006-09-07 04:01:48 · update #4

People must have followers on here - cause for the life of me, I can't understand why BH would get 3 thumbs up for what he said in the above?? I'd rather someone spelled something wrong than to have a sentence not make any sense...

It's difficult to take someone seriously when it's apparent they are too lazy to look up a word or use the free "check spelling" feature right here in Answers.

This place is about communication...if you do not communicate effectively others will not understand or not believe you seriously want the information you have inquired about.

It's also a sad commentary on our educational system. All of us (at least those educated in the US) who went to public school had spelling lessons as children, but apparently many got little or nothing out of them.

Typos are forgiveable...anyone can make those, especially people who don't type well to begin with or don't do it regularly...but someone who simply never bothered to learn to spell properly comes across as lazy and not caring how others perceive them.

If you are going to participate in a text based world...you'd do much better if you knew how to communicate (in text) correctly and effectively. Just like if you go to a country that speaks a language other than yours, you'll have a better chance of being understood and getting what you need if you've bothered to learn their language.

I get bent because we have an opportunity here to communicate with such a diverse group. Something that unites us is the ability to use a commom language.
I am a writer. I love language, especially English. I think it is beautiful. It helps to pull what is in your brain out onto paper for all to see.
I feel it is disrespectful to make my writing hard to read or understand. It is like using my intelligence to beat people up, instead of striving to get a clear picture across to my audience. It is arrogance in the guise of humor.
When you write" r3411y," it is still symbolic English. but when you write "what" instead of "want" or "wham," it changes the question in a fundamental way.
For instance," want do you think we should wham?" is not the same question as "what do you think we should want?"
The point of these questions is often that a person cannot communicate with the source of his problem. Maybe if he was more thoughtful, careful, and focused, he could get his question well-stated and get well-thought-out answers.
And just because YOU don't think something is important does not make it "nothing." That is the posing of a self-absorbed child who thinks that his view is the only one there is.
As far as this having to do with sexual frustration, I am well-fu^%ed just about every day, by the love of my life, thank you.
Good question.

It makes you appear to be unintelligent....which you could be...the language that we all use to communicate should be the same. Our school system is so bad that you only reinforce this belief. It scares people to think the country will someday be in your hands. We don't feel safe and love our country too much.

You will be teaching our youth some day and that is scary because we love our kids. It is the same reason why we don't like you being drug addicts, foul mouthed, etc.

Can't even hold your pants up or tie shoes! Nipple rings, too. It is all quite horrifying!

Suppose you said..."Clothes! What's the big deal?"

That is scary, too.

If you can't communicate properly...we won't understand the question!

How's that?

PS I get laid regularly. How clever you must be!!!!

OOOOOO---OOOOO...I couldn't even think of that myself!

How about" u r a MRN"

ooooo-ooooooo Now I'm clever, too?

What time is the Tyra Banks show on?

It's not nothing. Not caring about proper spelling, punctuation and capitalization not only makes you appear less intelligent, it also makes you appear lazy - there's a "Check Spelling" button right there to click on before you submit an answer. How hard is it to check your spelling before you submit your answer? People don't think spelling, manners or etiquette matter anymore, but they're wrong. Yes, there are worse things than incorrect spelling, but you should respect yourself enough to care. It's not that hard to learn. I'll rarely point out spelling errors in questions, but I will answer the question honestly if asked directly, like you did.

Because it is distracting and sometimes it seems like a battle against illiteracy. When sentences are created that are screwed up so the question cannot be understood then, yes, I do miss the point they are trying to get across and then it becomes a deciphering process on my part. It slows me down and alot of that garbage (poorly constructed sentences with atrocious spelling) I have to pass over.

I made one error in one of my answers that obviously bothered some guy sooooooo much he had to email me and call me an idiot. When you bully someone over spelling then you have a problem. I think some people are in a hurry when they type they make mistakes. I never gave my email after that incident. If you can make out what they meant it shouldn't matter. If its full of spelling errors then you can either not answer the question or tell them you can't understand them.

Well...it depends......if the spelling is a true error, then I let it slide. But if it is just pure laziness, it bugs me. I don't bother to say anthing but I AM screaming inside my head. My own little pet peeve. Y3s, 1 kn0w 1 n33d 2 g37 a l1f3 ;)

Yeah. A lot of times the question is so misspelled I have no idea if they are asking about "piss" or "plss" or "medial" or "medical". That doesn't even cover the issue that anyone who can't spell might not be worth getting into a conversation with or might miss the point you are trying to make in your reply.

I don't make a big deal out of a misspelled word - everybody gets their fingers tangled up sometimes.

On the other hand, I see people on here all the time who insult other people, and can't spell anything right - along the lines of, "hey your stoopid cant you see im smarter thin u?" These people, I point out their shortcomings.

If it's an intelligent question then it is childish and evasive to attack spelling. However I find that many of the ignorant and immature questions here have terrible grammar and spelling. That I don't have a problem with pointing out.
