Historian allwasy said, any language can dominate the world for a period of time, such as Spanish, and someday in the future, it will be replaced by another language ,which will become the next global language. Surly, the dominate language is decided by the power of a nation holding a specific language.

In the future, if the UK and US falls down, will some other language will replace English as the news global communication tool. For example, Chinese or Spanish language?

Recent social, political and economical developments have made it increasingly clear that an international language is necessary, to be studied and spoken throughout the entire world, in every city, in every home, in every family and group of friends. It is to have a vocabulary rich and powerful enough to express every feeling and reality that the human mind can experience and remember, and it is to have a grammar simple enough to leave no room for ambiguity whatsoever and to be easier to learn and to use, and its functions and methods easier to understand and to master, than any of the already existing languages. Its phonetic system is to make use of every sound of speech that a human can voluntarily produce, and yet it is to remain easy to learn. The language itself, ie the way it works, is to be fully understood by all speakers, thus minimizing errors and doubts.

How far do you agree with this view?
And if you agree, how would you contribute for the creation of such a language?

I sometimes speak spanish with my latino friends, I don't speak very well but I'm trying to learn another language, but I notice that some people automatically believe that I either not from here, or I don't speak english

Is kind of weird, but it seems like they only what people to speak english, why? A bilingual person counts for 2, don't u think?

And by the way I love when other people can't understand what I'm saying :)

the kids seem to be using it to describe things that have nothing to do with homosexuality or good humor. I just read a a question from someone who wants to post a picture "because those avatar things are gay."

People say this is incorrect: Today last year I travelled to London.

The letter Y is like the Tomato of letters. Is it a Vowel or Constanent?

In my opinion it is more a vowel than all the other vowels because it can make the long A sound in Hey and Hay, The long E sound in almost every other word like happy and family, and the long I sound in the word why.

I will award 10 points and the right to brag to whoever can give me the best argument stating that Y is a constenant. If you agree with me, just answer truthfully and take your 2 points. If you really have an argument, state it.

P.S. The argument, Y makes a short y sound in the words yes and yeah dosen't count.

P.S.S. This is just a contest for my own amusment.

I can't understand some of the lyrics of "Dilemma" by Nelly and Kelly (ok, I ain't a native English speaker...). Can someone please explain them for me?

The sentences which confuses me are:

1. "...like a shortstop, pick up e'rything mami hittin..."
2. "...there's somethin bout baby girl I just can't leave alone. So tell me ma what's it gonna be? She said..."
3. "...I know how ****** start actin trippin out here about they girls..."
4. "...you come through and holla and swoop me in his two-seater..."
5. "...that's gangsta..."
6. "...but(uh) you and dirty got ties for different reasons"

J'utilise le logiciel Systran mais je n'en suis pas satisfait. Lisez comment il traduit ce texte ! :

I use the Systran software but I of it am not satisfied. Read how it translates this text!

"You know" -> Do you know
"I of it am not satisfied" -> i am not satisfied of it
etc etc...

Can you copy/paste my text in your own translator and show me what you get with it please ?

I studied Farsi at the local Iranian Cultural Centre; however, my Farsi is still quite inadequate. In particular, I want help with Faris songs and chat/conversation. Can you help? E-mail works best for me because of the problem with time differences and the fact that I use a dial-up modem: cable is still rare here, and so slow!
