For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. The priests way back when had to keep records of what people were confessing. It took too long to write this out every time so they stated to abbreviate it. Now it's just a slang word used as a verb adj noun etc.

Ummali03 certainly can cut and paste ;p, but he's right. Fu*k did NOT originate as any kind of acronym or phrase, it is descended from Proto-German *fukan which meant "to have intercourse". This was a euphemism based on Proto-Indo-European *pug- "to strike" and replaced some older, vulgar word which we have no evidence of. Its earliest written attestation in English is from 1503 and was spelled fukk at that time (that spelling should end the acronym myth). No one invented it, it's been a part of our language (and the ancestor language(s)) for thousands of years. In other words, it's NOT French and it does NOT mean "fornication under consent of the king" or "for unlawful carnal knowledge" or any of the other stupid things that people make up. It means "to have intercourse" and has meant that for at least 3000 years.

In olden times a couple had to have permission-or consent- in order to have intercourse and to reproduce. When they were doing the thing that couples do they had to have a sign on the door that said, "Fornication Under Consent of King" or F***.

FYI: When ships were the major way of transporting a massive amount of goods, maneuer was a popular commody. However, due to the methane gases, it had to be stored above the water or an explosion would occur. So, the people who loaded the ships had to put a sign on the maneur that said, "Store High In Transit"-or SH**.

My favorite story about this question;
In the middle ages you had to have permission to have sex (concieve), when given permission a plaque was supplied that said "Fornication Under Consent of the King"

Some say it came from a latin poem in which it was said some friers were not in heaven because they f*** the wifes of some little town. Some say it came from the Dutch word fokken which means the breed cattle. Others say it came from the Swedish word fokka which means to copulate. The wisest people say origion unknown.

I'm not entirely certain, but I've read that it is an acronym that stands for Fornication Under Consent of King. Meaning that whoever it was that was ****'ing was having sex with the permission of the king, or within law. I think it had to do with areas where prostitution was legal. Or with people who weren't married that were legally having sex.

I have always heard what tumadre wrote, 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge'. It is at least popularly believed enough to be featured as a 1991 Van Halen album title.
