Christmas - October 2006

[Selected]: All categories Society & Culture Holidays Christmas

I was walking around shops and have noticed lots of decorations in shops!! My friend thinks that it is way too early for things like that, and I do agree to an extent. . . . .but I love christmas!! I can't help feeling a bit excited and a bit happier, when I walk through the shops!!
What do you think? Is it way too early or do you enjoy the festivities at this time?

my three friends and I do a USD20 gift exchange for christmas each year. we'd write our four names on a note and draw. so long we do not draw on our name, we'll then get a gift for that 'secret pal'.

over the years, i have exhausted my mind on what to buy. any one has any ideas how to do it differently (besides drawing names) or any creative gifts to recommend?

fyi, one is a rich lady who "has everything", one is a homely lady with only husband and kid in mind, one is a feminine lady who likes pretty stuff.

thanks.

I'd never heard of this until I started seeing it in movies and pop culture a few years ago. I was just curious as to if it is an actual tradition and where the orgins for it are.

My kids, 13 and 9 are asking for such expensive things. My 13 year old wants a sidekick 3, Uggs boots, North Face jacket, a video game, perfume and a coach bag (it would have to be a fake one). My son wants a MP3 player, games for his PSP, Nintendo Lite DS, games for that and a pair of Heely's. Is this too much? I need another job just to pay for those things. Name the things your kids want and what you plan on getting and not. Thanks :)

I'm working on a musical project for a couple of holiday parties late next month and am wondering what your favorite Christmas or winter-themed songs are.

BTW, my favorite is "What Child is This"

Some members of my family suggested having a gift exchange this holiday season since some members (including myself) experience financial harships this year. However, we do not have a really big family. On each side, it would be between 5-8 people. We tried to do this in the past and it really didn't save me any $. I still would buy for my mom, dad, sister anyway. I have a good chance of getting them in a gift exchange. If I don't buy for them and get an uncle that I see only a few times a year. I would have a problem givng him a gift and not my mother and father. Should we consider having a gift exhange or just buying inexpensive gifts for everyone? Sorry if this sound confusing

I am a Primary Teacher and am making a news programme for drama with my class. In the news programme we will ask how different cultures celebrate xmas. I need to know (from genuine Australians preferably) how you/your family celebrate Christmas in Oz. Is it a turkey thing or a throw another shrimp on the barbie affair? If you could say whereabouts you're from that would be great. Some different ideas would be great, obviously you don't all do the same thing.

Thanks so much.
