My kids, 13 and 9 are asking for such expensive things. My 13 year old wants a sidekick 3, Uggs boots, North Face jacket, a video game, perfume and a coach bag (it would have to be a fake one). My son wants a MP3 player, games for his PSP, Nintendo Lite DS, games for that and a pair of Heely's. Is this too much? I need another job just to pay for those things. Name the things your kids want and what you plan on getting and not. Thanks :)

My stepsons are that way. Their mom's family has the $$$$$$ so they are always getting the expensive stuff. Two years ago when we got an "is this all we get?" from them, I had had enough!!!! We do not compete anymore and get them what we we feel they need.
My four year old, of all things is asking for a rocking horse!!! Go figure!!!
I hope this helps.....I have told this in other answers, but, with my older kids who are grown now, I always gave them 3 gifts because that is what Jesus got. 1 big one that they wanted, 1 medium needed item like clothes or shoes and one fun item like a game or movie, etc. It helped keep a proper perspective on being thankful for what they had. I do the same with my 4 yr old and will with my 4 mo old too.
As for my stepsons, I hope we can set some sort of example for them or they will never be satisfied when life gets REAL.
Hope you and your children can find joy and happiness this Christmas and can make the gift giving special.
It also helps them to appreciate if you can get them involved in some sort of charity like Angel Tree or Samaritans Purse or Toys for Tots.

i dont have any children, but i am a nanny, and my clients are well...spoiled brats. one christmas, after they threw a FIT over one getting an extra present, i told them their next present is going to be manners class and more chores. and i followed through! now these girls know the value of a dollar.

i am still young, about to graduate from high school, but i do understand that my parents are hard working people that have more than one kid. money doesnt revolve around me, it revolves around bills, and food namely. Normally, i make one big list early in the year, and i slowing start to narrow it down to about 3 things i would really like. i get what i can afford to treat myself everyonce in a while, but i always make it a priority to get everyone in my family gifts before myself. this year, i am asking for a perfume i like, a dress, and a cd. if anything extra is given to me, its from my boyfriend or friends. i believe giving is always better than recieving!

My son gets one thing for Christmas. He always has. The rest of the gifts my extended family exchange have to be home made. It's a lot of fun, and it has kept my son from becoming too materialistic.
Every year the gifts get more and more interesting, as everybody tries to come up with something original.
My son's one gift this year? He has asked for indoor soccer shoes.
BTW he's 16.
