Try United Way, or better yet, The Salvation Army has a program every year called the "Angel Tree". You have to sign your kids up for it, but what it is, is you put the age, and sex of the child on a paper "ornament" along with their Christmas wish list (or if they're too young, put what they really NEED along with a couple things you'd think they'd want) and give it to them. They will place that paper ornament on a BIIIIG christmas tree, usually in buisinesses or the mall, and WONDERFUL, GENEROUS strangers will pick up that ornament and buy gifts for that child. Then they will turn those gifts in, (along with the receipts) to the Salvation Army and they deliver them to the families for Christmas. This way...you get to experience that there ARE still good people in the world, and your kids dont' have to know they didn't REALLY come from "Santa".
My mom was disabled and couldn't work and my dad left us around this time of year. My mom had no money and was extremely depressed about Christmas or how we were even going to make it. She finally swallowed her pride and contacted these organizations. They are WONDERFUL. I was old enough to know the truth of the situation (I was 16) but I'll never forget the people who helped our family have a wonderful Christmas, and to this day, I still "pay it forward" every year, by buying gifts for my OWN angel off the tree.
Also, you can contact churches and they usually take a list from people who suggest families for Christmas food baskets as well. (We did this one too) And the church charities will bring you food . It may not be the "traditional" Christmas dinner, but it's still really good.

do you have any kind of state aid at all? If not you should check into that...I'm a single mom of 2 children and one year i didn't have enough for Christmas either so i can understand...most state well fare offices have programs where someone will "adopt' your family for Christmas. If not try the salvation army or St Vincent DE Paul's or Goodwill offices....many local fire departments also run an angel tree or even other service organizations like Lion's club or Eagle's or Moose...good luck mom and hang in there it gets better :)

The United States Marine Corps sponsors a program called Toys for Tots. I'm not sure who you would contact about that, but try a USMC recruiting office. They might have resources to get you in the right direction. Or research Toys for Tots on the internet. My husband used to be a Marine and he volunteered for that every season.

The Salvation Army or a local church. And tell your kids the truth that threre isn't really a Santa. I was raised not believing in Santa so I was never disapointed with what I got for Xmas. My mom was raised believing in Santa and every year she was really disapointed on Xmas because she didn't get anything she asked for (her family was poor). My mom wishes that her mom just told her the truth about Santa so she didn't get her hopes up every year.

Contact the Family Service Society. Walmart also collects names and put them on trees. People buy gifts for those children on the tree.. Turn your name in to your child's school. I hope I helped.

our local police organize a toy drive every year. After Thanksgiving, just keep your ear out on the local radio station. They usually advertise for donations and for people in need to come sign up.

best thing to do is depending on where you live. here where i live in austin tx, one of the radio station has a big fundraiser to raise money and buy lots of bikes, last year i think they gave like a 1000 bikes away, several of the other stations had simmilar things as well. so call your local station to see if they know of anything like that in your area
