I believe that "Christ" should always be in Christmas

Well, considering that they are exactly the same thing......I really don't care what it's called. I call it Yule or Winter Soltice because that was what it was before the holiday was supplanted by Christmas.

You see, the X in Xmas did not originate as our English alphabet's X but as the symbol X in the Greek alphabet, called Chi, with a hard ch. The Greek Chi or X is the first letter in the Greek word Christos. ... This abbreviation has been in use for hundreds of years if not longer.....and still found in some Greek Orthodox Churches and texts.

I don't know why people get so upset about this issue.
IT MEANS THE SAME THING!

The "x" is from the Greek spelling of Christ. Xmas means Christmas.

Christmas, definately! I have seen this in a few other questions and people argue that the X is like the Greek letter for Christ, but that still sounds like an excuse. I guess if you are in Greece, you can use the X, but other wise....we should keep Christ in Christmas.

What difference does it make? Christmas, like Easter and Halloween are from the pagan past. So changing the spelling of Christmas is not going to make it any more or less "Christian."

Because Christmas is a hoilday for my Lord Jesus Christ his name should not be taken out of the hoilday. Christmas really is not about the gifts, the real meaning of christmas is to remember the birth of Christ and what he did for us. Christmas is about giving, helping and loving.

I think that if you are a Christian than Xmas is not acceptable. If you do not believe in Christ then it is not necessary to place the "Christ" in Christmas.

Xmas is not a word . Taking Christ out of Christmas and there is nothing to celebrate. No Christ =no Christmas.

I do... when you don't spell the whole word it is like you are crossing out Christ in Christmas by putting Xmas instead.

I FIRMLY BELIEVE WE SHOULD USE CHRISTMAS INSTEAD OF XMAS. AND YOU HAVE TO ASK WHY? WE HAVE LET OUR GOVERMENT TAKE CHRIST OUT OF EVERTHING ELSE SO I GUESS SOME PEOPLE THINK IT'S OK TO TAKE IT OUT OF CHRISTMAS. THINK ABOUT IT CHRISTMAS REPERSENTS THE BIRTH OF OUR SAVIOU JESUS. I KNOW I PROTESTED SOME STORES LAST YEAR, BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T ALLOWED TO SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND SAYING A HOLIDAY TRESS INSTEAD OF A CHRISTMAS TREE. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT HAS HAPPEN TO OUR COUNTRY, AFTER ALL WE DO VOTE OUR GOVERMENT IN AND OUT OF OFFICE. AND PEOPLE WONDER WHAT'S HAPPEN TO OUR YOUTH. WELL THEY TOOK PRAYER OUT OF THE SCHOOLS THE PLEDGE OF OUR FLAG OUT OF SCHOOLS THAT OUR AMERCIAN MEN FOUGHT AND DIED FOR. SO PLEASE LETS' NOT TAKE CHRIST. OUT OF CHRISTMAS, HE IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

Allegedly, the X in Xmas is actually the greek letter Chi, which was a common abbreviation of Kristos, Christ's name. (Using the roman alphabet, also written Xpistos. In greek, I believe that would be Χριστος.)
