Christmas - October 2006

As Christianity seems to be going down the tubes, and all things religious seem to have been dropped in favour of large-scale commercial interests trying to sell us things that we don't need at inflated prices purely to line their own greedy pockets, is it not about time that we all refused to participate in this "Season to be Jolly" charade?

I work at a retail store (all females). Anyway, we had a secret santa drawing and I drew my manager's name.

She is in her late 20s, engaged, and she just moved into a townhome. She is a really bubbly person. We made a storewide rule...NO Bath and Body Works or Victoria's Secret (because in past years, that is all people got! lol)...

So any ideas, people!!? I was thinking a nice throw blanket or something...

The price range is $15-20

THANKS!!!!

When should Christmas lights be put up & when should they be taken down? I've always gone by the rule my Mom used. Up after Thanksgiving & down the week after New Years.

AND...
SHOULD THERE BE A LAW...?
I've already seen 3 stores with Christmas lights and Sale signs up. Jeezus H!, it's not even Halloween yet.
P.S. NO discussion of religion or religious ornaments, statues, and/or symbols please. (Keep it light) Thanks.

Every year I help decorate our cabin for Christmas, this year we are having a pirate theme... but we need a catchy pirate sounding title for in the program. Can you share your ideas?

This seems really silly to me but...
my bf and I were talking about x-mas yesterday and he asked what are we going to do about x-mas. He said he thinks we should set an amount to spend on eachother and not go over. Well, I think thats a fine idea, cause I tend to go overboard when it comes to buying presents but what should the limit be?? If I suggest too high, he will feel cheap to suggest lower if I suggest too low, he will think I dont want to spend much on him! We both make a decent living, so I wouldnt mind $200! but he might think thats too much! How do you address an issue like this? I was going to get him a nice pocket watch (cause he LOVES clocks) and a few small things that he might like. Its the thought that counts, so I want to be thoughtful and not out-do him! what do you think??

Why do we celebrate christmas with decorated trees, lights everywhere, $3000 worth of gifts for everyone, santa claus? Where did we go from worshiping Jesus to Santa Claus and all the material things he will bring us?

The Christmas season is right around the corner. Im looking for a special song that touches my heart. Its about a couple who go to an orphanage and take a little girl home for the holidays. They end up adopting her and she was their Christmas Carol. Does anyone know who sings this or what the name of the song is? I thought it was Christmas Carol, but, I cant find it.

I wan told by the school district that the term "Christmas Break" may be offensive to non-christians. I think this is sad that in America, a country of long standing traditions, we cannot refer to the school break in December as either a Christmas break or even a holiday break. It must be referred to as a Winter Break. Sad state of affairs.

A friend of mine is planning to get married next December and instead of table numbers she wants to use names of things associated with Christmas/winter. Sofar the only things we've come up with are hot cocoa, spiced cider, snowflakes, stockings, Christmas tree, etc. Does anyone have any other ideas they would like to share?

focus on the comercialism and stress themselves out over it instead of celibrating the true meaning of Christ. Christmas can cost a lot of money and I don't think it was meant for that.

I need help on giving the right Christmas gifts to people.

I tend to spend too much on friends (guys) that I'm not really close with. Same for girls.

Can someone plase list a number of things I get can for people who fall in between the "friend/companion" category?
