I wan told by the school district that the term "Christmas Break" may be offensive to non-christians. I think this is sad that in America, a country of long standing traditions, we cannot refer to the school break in December as either a Christmas break or even a holiday break. It must be referred to as a Winter Break. Sad state of affairs.

I agree with Grieving Father and Marcia today we live in a world that does not want to have anything to do with excepting that Christmas is Jesus's Birthday. They are trying everywhere from the schools to the work place to make us give up celebrating or saying Merry Christmas or call it Christmas Break. I thought that this was a free country an we had free speech. If every Christian would take a stand all over the whole world by getting mad an refusing to give in to satan's controll over these matters. If a boss fires you for keep saying Merry Christmas at work then that place was not worth working at anyway or what are they going to do kick children out of school for calling it Christmas Break at school we need to buck up against the big shots and take a stand.Good Luck and God Bless You and Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!

Was always Christmas vacation since I was a child in the early 60s cause thats what it is...Christmas; and I believe the USA regards it as a legal holiday..Christmas not Winter Break lol
We were just as diverse as a nation then as now.

News Years is considered not only a legal holiday but a Catholic Holy Day...for how many years??? Should we do away with that too?

Gee maybe we shouldn't celebrate Valentines Day either, a holiday of love, because there are so many in the world full of hate?

Halloween..now theres another one...All those non christians have no problem with Halloween parties at school for years and years..what about the Christians who didnt think it was Christian like to do so?

How long before some will be offended with Veteran's Day cause they oppose war???

I'm in agreement, sad state of affairs.

Interesting how the local governments, schools, and stores have taken it upon themselves to be the leading edge on getting Christmas out of Christmas. Look at what the official federal government holiday calendar lists December 25 as:

Dec. 25 is and was the birth date of Mithras, the early church took that date for Jesus b'day because they couldn't get the people to stop celebrating the winter solstice. The world is made up of many religion with different beliefs, why should they have to use christian terms. Church should not only be separated from the government but from the schools too. If you want your kids to pray in school, pay for religious schools.

It does seem like a sad state of affairs. But as a society what should we have expected? Not everyone believes in Santa Clause and not everyone believes in Jesus Christ's birthday, and not everyone sees things the same way.

It's not even a holiday break for those who have to work while others are celebrating. In a way, it does make sense to request that out of respect for others....it could be referred to as a Winter break for school children. Please help your grandson to respect and understand that not everyone is as fortunate as he is.

If tradition was that great, then everyone would still be driving American cars, but they're not. People want cars that are built better, and more cost-effective, and other people have found ways of producing that. So people have started buying more reliable foreign cars. The only way the world progresses if the best things succeed. (Survival of the Fittest).

I'm not going to judge, but maybe Christianity isn't the best thing for all people in this day and age. Things change.

Schools have to continue to keep the 'separation of religion and state'. It is in the constitution that the two shall not be combined. Saying Christmas break, is against that rule. Winter break works for all. It is a sad state of affairs that people like yourself, don't understand that the whole world doesn't revolve around your religion. Respect of all is what makes the world a better place. It is why our forefathers put it in the constitution. It protects everyone. Don't blame the schools, they are doing what they are supposed to be.

ummm,. because Hanukkah is at the same time and not everyone celebrates Christmas. It is a winter break!!!!!
Should spring break be called Easter break, Passover break?

It isn't a sad state of affairs, it is sad you even have time to get angry about this.

Oh the poor little tyke. Such persecution he has to endure! There is no way on earth Christmas can be avoided in the USA. Get over it! There must be some real problems in the world you can tackle -- how about doing something about the poor and the hungry. You must lead a very protected life if you agonize over such a silly "problem."
