Why do we celebrate christmas with decorated trees, lights everywhere, $3000 worth of gifts for everyone, santa claus? Where did we go from worshiping Jesus to Santa Claus and all the material things he will bring us?

If you celebrate it "Right" chances are the question isnt directed toward you. As one of those that celebrates it "wrong," i think its because we lost our values somewhere along the line. Seems like christmas is about greed now. What can i get or what should i give. If this person spends $100 on me, then maybe i should do the same. Its really a stupid way of thinking and 80% of the population is guilty of it. I myself have stopped. I only give gifts to the kids. As they shouldnt be punished for the parents lack of understanding.

I do not celebrate Christmas in the manner you have described and I think it is quite sad that so many people have forgotten that Christmas is all about Jesus. However I do enjoy giving and receiving gifts at this beautiful time of the year. Last year I asked those closest to me what they would like for Christmas and the responses were great. These were a few of the answers I received.
More time with you, all-night prayer meeting, take a trip together to a special place like the Getty Museum, your delicious home cooking, etc. These are the kinds of gifts that really matter.
One year a few of us spent a weekend in a cabin (high up in the mountains) prior to Christmas and had a birthday party for Jesus. His gifts were spoken out loud as each of us declared what He means to us and how He has blessed us beyond our greatest imaginations. We even had a birthday cake with a candle shaped like a question mark. What fun!

I don't. We don't acknowledge Santa, we celebrate the birth of Jesus and we tell our children that the reason we give gifts is because the Wise men brought gifts to Baby Jesus. They are happy with that and the adults get together and adopt a child for Christmas.

My family and I celebrate Christmas the way we should by worsiping our lord Jesus christ , but I also have children so we also let them believe in santa And I dont think there is any thing wrong with that I believe you can do both and still be A good Christian.

Christmas started back when a bunch of rich, stupid, drunk white guys got together and started exchanging gifts, this is when they decided that they would do this every year and later it was called Christmas. This is what I believe because If Jesus was born in Bethlaham in december then Jesus would have died because Bethlaham gets some of the coldest weather during December. So Jesus was born during the summer. Also I heard this from my favorite show the boondocks.

Christmas was just a doctrine of man... it is very unbiblical...

Accdg to the Bible.. We should REMEMBER Christ... through the Holy Supper.. the wine that symbolized the blood he shed and the bread that symbolized the his body he sacrificed all for salvation.... not through xmas carolings and xmas trees and santa claus... very paganic for a Christian.. isnt it?

First of all, let me answer your question with another question.
PLEASE think about this!! In the story of when Jesus was born, remember how three sheperds came and saw him while they were tending to their sheep? If Jesus was born in December, when its snowy and cold, why would the sheperds have their sheep out in the cold? How do scientists actually know that Jesus was born in Dec.? Think about it...

A good question would be if Dec 25 is supposed to be Jesus' birthday, why doesn't he get anything. Say is Dec 25 his birhtday?
