ok, so Christmas is a ways away but because my budget is so tight and i still want to give thoughtful gifts I thought i should start now. my dad is almost 60 and always says he doesnt "need" anything for Christmas. I want to get him something nice and useful while still maintaining a budget. Any ideas?

In the past I have worn some good costumes to work on Halloween: Beetlejuice, clown, dad's 1950's army uniform, a dress. What are some unique costume ideas for this year?
Thanks.

Isn't it just a time for kids to dress up and eat candy? What does the devil have to do with it?

i think it would be respectful for schools to do a small memorial service and then have school let out for the day... what do you think?

I once worked with a woman who found it appalling that i did not celebrate Halloween with my children. I don't believe in Santa Clause either, but I do celebrate Christmas ( we celebrate is as Christ's birthday). I celebrate Thanksgiving as our family being thankful for God's blessings ( not for the whole Quacker and Pilgrims stuff....because of what history suggest that happened to the American Indians back then)

In other words, I do allow my children to go to the mall on Halloween and collect candy and maybe get their face painted or something, just to simply let them enjoy the day. However, I teach my children the truth about holidays and their meanings so that when their older, they can decide to celebrate them or not with their children.......why does this seem to make me such a bad parent to some people?

Just wondering if anyone has noticed different trends in the way Halloween is celebrated where you live (yes, I know, trends are always changing). Some examples of what I've noticed in my town is the parties in the public schools. The school in town still does a costume parade around the town (during school hours, and separate from the big town party)that all the parents and others come out to watch, and they still sponsor a window painting contest (kids sign up to paint the downtown store windows), but the parties themselves have changed somewhat--no games anymore, just a ton of sugary food after the parade, and there are a lot more parents pulling their kids out of school on the day of the party for religious reasons. That kind of thing.
Also, some of the church youth groups used to host Halloween parties for the local kids, with games, costume contests, and haunted houses, but no one does that anymore. Now all the kids go have their own fun.
So just some thoughts. :)

I am giving NHL hockey tickets as a gift. I need a creative way to give them, rather than just wrapping them up as they are. Any cool ideas?

I googled it 10 different ways and still can't find a site that offers outdoor christmas decorations, preferably animated, at a reasonable price! Snowmen, santas etc. Anyone have a good place or site they get their stuff to decorate?

Why don't you just browse the costume websites or look up "make your own costumes" on Yahoo websearch, or just read all the suggestions already here, to get some ideas?

Okay, still stumped? At least give us some details about yourself: what do you enjoy? What kind of personality do you have? Age? Male or female? Size (roughly--slim, average, short, plump, extra tall?), and they might at least give us something to go on!

Thanks!

I'm Christian and my mom disapproves of Halloween, but I love it.I think that it's so fun and cool but she insists that it's evil.I understand that there really are real witches and stuff like that but I mean...it's not like I'm gonna do bad things and start doing dark magic just because it's Halloween.I just wanna dress up and go trick or treating and maybe go to a Halloween dance at school.Everyone else at my school celebrates Halloween. And I read Harry Potter books and watch the movies and I am super-obsessed with it,and supposedly THAT isn't for Christians either.I mean how come she lets me read Harry Potter books but not celebrate Halloween? She let my big brother celebrate it when he was one year old and now she she hasn't let us do anything ever since way back then.So anyways,I just wanted to know if people on Yahoo Answers think that she should lighten up and let me celebrate it or not...maybe if you guys agree with me than she'll be convinced. :~)

When I lived in Pennsylvania the 1st day of the hunting season was a day off from school. As a result of this we ended up getting a 3 day holiday for Thanksgiving as it fell on a Monday.

Any thing like that where you actually had school or work off.

I was thinking about being the St. Paulis girl but I was wondering, does anyone know of another girl I could be? Not just a category like a nurse or whatever, I want to be an actual person. Thanks for the help!
