Isn't it just a time for kids to dress up and eat candy? What does the devil have to do with it?

Because most religious people are blinded by their own hypocrisy and faith. Halloween was a pagan holiday so they assume it is satanic (although Christmas and Easter both have ties to pagan traditions but you don't see them crying and spouting scriptures of those).

That's pretty much what it is now a days. I don't understand why some Christians don't allow their children to trick or treat or something. Kids don't know about Halloween's orgins and they don't care. Most adults don't even know, or they think they know but have their facts all wrong.

As many has said Halloween has it's Pagan orgins. They celbrated Samhain which was the end of their harvest. the beginning of Winter for them, and winter in those days pretty much equalled death. They did believe that the boundary separating the living and dead became blurred on this day as well as Beltane (which was the beginning of Summer) The celts believe that the spirits would help them accuratley predict how much food they'd need for the coming winter.

That's not so much Satanic. Christians pray for help. And many Christians believe that the spirits of their loved ones are looking over them. It's a time to respect and honor a lost loved one.

All Saints Day is on Nov. 1. And back in the day the two Holidays were often celebrated on the same day. All Souls Day is on Nov. 2. These are Catholic festivals. Do you know what is All Souls Day is? It's a day to commemorate the dead who have not yet reached Heaven. Sound a bit familiar, aye?

During the time of Samhain bad spirits could wander the land as well so people would dress up to fool those spirits. That's why we dress up today.

Some Christians have said they feel the barrier between the living and dead should never be crossed or whatever. But they pray and stuff. *shrug* I don't understand the hipocrisy. I think they have a problem with kids dressing as "evil" things for fun. Like the devil, witches, etc. All popular costumes and considered evil by most Christians.

Not all are like this. I'm Baptist and my church have always had parties for the kids on Halloween.

I'm Baptist our church always has something going for the kids at Halloween. We always said just get your pumpkin done for the front of the house. To keep away evil spirits. It's a kids holiday! It's not like your trying to do any weird things to others. Have a happy Halloween.

It has pagan origins - but heck, so does everything else. They just get in a twist because they associate paganism with their devil, which is ignorant.

For kids it's about dressing up and eating candy, and shame on anyone for spoiling good clean fun!

Some of these answers really annoy me. What does being Baptist have to do with it? I'm Baptist (well non-denominational with Baptist doctrine) and we're not the only one's against it! It's just completely wrong. I mean sure innocent kids running around saying trick or treat is fine, but some of it can be really evil.

Because as fundamentalists, they associate Halloween, and it's celebration of Vampires, ghosts, witches, etc. with Satan. Check out this Chick fundamentalist tract on Halloween:

Their view of Halloween is twisted.
