I'm Christian and my mom disapproves of Halloween, but I love it.I think that it's so fun and cool but she insists that it's evil.I understand that there really are real witches and stuff like that but I mean...it's not like I'm gonna do bad things and start doing dark magic just because it's Halloween.I just wanna dress up and go trick or treating and maybe go to a Halloween dance at school.Everyone else at my school celebrates Halloween. And I read Harry Potter books and watch the movies and I am super-obsessed with it,and supposedly THAT isn't for Christians either.I mean how come she lets me read Harry Potter books but not celebrate Halloween? She let my big brother celebrate it when he was one year old and now she she hasn't let us do anything ever since way back then.So anyways,I just wanted to know if people on Yahoo Answers think that she should lighten up and let me celebrate it or not...maybe if you guys agree with me than she'll be convinced. :~)

Hon-there are no such things as witches. There are people that claim to be witches, but they are just practicing strange behaviors and beliefs. They have no real power.

As far as convincing your Mom, slim chance. You said yourself that you are obsessed with the Harry Potter books. Doesn't really put your thinking in a good light does it? I know as well as you that it is all harmless fun, but some people just don't see it that way. It is the same to your Mom as anything else she feels would be harmful to you, such as driving the car too young or being exposed to sexual images as you grew up, etc. She feels like she is doing what is best for you.

Just remember, Halloween isn;t just for kids and when you are an adult, you can choose to celebrate it if you wish.

If she hasnt let you celebrate it since your brother was 1 (not sure how old he is but you said way back then) then I dont think she is going to be swayed by a bunch of strangers on Yahoo Answers.

However, maybe you could compromise and go to the halloween dance as long as she approves of your costume (nothing evil obviously). Tell her that it is about having fun with your friends, its not about the history of Halloween.

I think she lets you read the books because they are "fiction" and she can monitor you while you are reading. Going trick or treating is another story and assuming you are old enough to go alone she may not be comfortable with not being able to keep an eye on you. The dance though should not be an issue. If it were any other school dance would she let you go? What if it werent a halloween dance but a masquerade ball? Basically the same thing, you dress up to go to a dance.

I think you might be able to talk her into the dance but dont set your heart on trick or treating. Talk to her like the adult you want her to think you are, ask her if she is willing to let you go to dance if you dont ask to go trick or treating. Dont try to push it and take what you can get. Im sure she is just trying to protect you.

Good luck!

Yes! Celebrate-- it's not any more evil than Christmas is (and yes Christmas is also based on a Pagan holiday) It's a fun day, so spend the night at a friends, and celebrate! Ignore anyone that says it's evil, because it's not. There's nothing evil about it. I'm 21 and have never seen one bad thing come from Halloween.

Ah yeah and razorblades and poison in candy are myths. The only thing that happened was one incident of poisoning candy and it was a father that poisoned his own children. And never once was there a razor blade in candy. It's just a way for parents to say no and act like they have a reason.

Have fun!

Of course you should be able to celebrate. Though if she doesnt want you to, i suggest you do some research on the holiday and show her that you know what you are doing. The pastor at my church always does a sermon stating how the christians began celebrating, and the origin of the jock o lantern, it goes something like this...the people were always afraid of the evil spirits, so they began taking candles from the church to put in windows saying that christ was present in the house, eventually they began making fun of the spirits by caving faces into pumpkins, and eventually were brave enough to go out and therefore started wearing costumes to show they were not afraid. How accurate this is i dont know, as it is originally a pagan based holiday, but thats the story straight from the church. good luck with convincing her.

Your mom is right in that it extremely is a night that improve into first pronounced to be the only night of the year that evil spirits and demons have been allowed to trick and bedevil human beings, devoid of repurcussion. it extremely is a pagan occasion, observed and integrated via catholicism (as many pagan celebrations have been). God for sure tells us that we are to abstain from the visual attraction of evil(a million Thessalonians 5:22). If we bypass out and take area with others that are interior the international, are you conserving your self become self sustaining from the international as God additionally instructions(2 Corinthians 6:17)? what form of testimony are you being for Christ? somebody could look at you and picture, "they don't seem to be diverse or doing something diverse than what i'm, so why do i could improve right into a christian?...we do all the comparable issues".

Talk to your pastor. Our church cancelled all activities last year in honour of Halloween, seen as a community event in our area. That way kids wouldn't be torn with going to church or trick or treating. It was very fair. Our pastor even takes his children out and is very seen during the trick or treating festivities.

Halloween in and of itself is not evil. The festival is meant to honour the dead and reflect upon our own mortality.

Maybe if you agree to wear a "Harry Potter" type costume and nothing trampy or gory, she might lighten up.

Personally, I think you should celebrate it. Many christians have big problems with Halloween. They can just get over it.

Like your mother, years ago, I allowed my daughter to "trick or treat" just as I did when I was young. As I have matured in the Word of God over the years, I can see that there are many things 'in the world' that are not meant for Christians to do or be a part of. Sometimes it means that it reverses all that we learned before and it can be confusing, but I understand as an adult. These things can influence you in ways you have no idea. The work of evil and satan can be strong and quick and sometimes hard to break when someone is involved. Just like drugs. It is subtle and you don't think you can become hooked just because you inhaled, or just because you took one sip. That one open door is all you need if you have no foundation or understanding in these kinds of things. That's how people trick you. When you read and understand the meaning of all of that, you will know why your mom does not want you to be a part of it. Our church sponsors a night of Praise for our young people. They want to go somewhere - they go to church and we have music and wholesome movies, food and games and they have just as much fun but it has a different meaning and no one is out to 'scare you' or hurt you with poisoned candy or other food laced with ingrediants that can hurt you. One year, some evil people placed razors in fruit and candy and several children were hurt and disfigured badly. Your mom does not want that for you. Much of what young people read and listen to is going right to your spirit and if you fill your spirit up with evil thinking and misguided information without having the truth, you are setting yourself up for a big fall. I am a teacher and when I listen to young people talk, they have language that is foul, their thinking sometimes is foul, they are ready to hurt people, fight, or bully. They don't forgive people easily, they are ready to snap on folks, it is hard to get them to control themselves. I honestly believe a lot of this is because of the garbage that's on tv, the overly sexual programs, etc. Some people say it's foolishness, but I have lived a long time and I have seen the differences in young people. Listen to your mother. RIght now, she knows what is best for you. She is right. She only wants to protect you and love you and as her child, your obligation is to love her and to do what she says. In my day - there was not even a discussion on the matter - we did what we were told. I would not try to convince her otherwise - she is right and has your best interest at heart. Give her a hug and allow her to teach you.

Dont always listen to your parents especially if you think you are 100 % right. Your parents want whats best for you but remember it might not necessarily be, so dont be afraid to change things.

Whenever you start to get involved in witchcraft, even Harry Potter books, you open yourself up to demonic bondages. I know this is difficult to understand, but the spiritual realm is real. Everyday you are making decisions to follow Christ or satan in whatever you do. You need to be very careful and be aware of your choices. halloween is a satanic day and you should not celebrate it. I realize it looks fun, but satan is very tricky. he is going to make alot of things that are bad seem fun in your life. You need to be aware while you are still young. Do what your mom asks, she is just trying to protect you.
