I don't think so. Yes it happened, its was horrible, and we should recognize it and we should never forget. However, its definitely not something we want to celebrate as a holiday. Also, when we adjust our lives for it beyond recovery/mourning, we give more credit to the antagonists.

Buffy...
I don't think that 9/11 should be a real "holiday".
I think it should be a day of remeberance as well as a day to reflect on just how good we have it here in the US as well as how vulnerable our way of life really is.

If we made 9/11 a holiday, it would just eventually become "another day off" or an excuse to not have to go to work or school. It would be taken for granted like most holidays which we already celebrate and recognize now.

I am in no way implying that the tragic events of 9/11 do not warrant rememberance, recognition and reflection. I just think that, realistically, holidays in the US are getting a little out of hand, we don't need anymore, as the true meaning of the event will just become forgotten.

I do think that all schools and workplaces should set aside a period of rememberance for 9/11, whether it be a service or simply a few minutes of silence. I also think that our children need to be reminded of the events of that day as an inportant part of our American history. The whole world has not been the same as it was before that day, and it will never be the same again.

They named Sept. 11, "Patriot Day". The government didn't think that schools should close on Dec. 7 which is "Pearl Harbor Day" so I doubt that they will want to make 9/11 a holiday either.

We celebrate it at my house cuz it's my husband's birthday. In other-words, we don't want mixed feelings but we do realize that it is an important day so here in my town we call it "Patriotic Day" and have a band concert with the Chief of Police and the Fire Department to say a prayer. We live in Los Angeles county. I don't think that schools will be let out though. It depends who can control it.....Bush?
