A new psychology study at Washington University was no laughing matter: It found that older adults may have a harder time getting jokes because of an age-related decline in certain memory and reasoning abilities.

The research suggested that because older adults may have greater difficulty with cognitive flexibility, abstract reasoning and short-term memory, they also have greater difficulty with tests of humor comprehension.

Researchers tested about 40 healthy adults over age 65 and 40 undergraduate students with exercises in which they had to complete jokes and stories. Participants also had to choose the correct punch line for verbal jokes and select the funny ending to series of cartoon panels.

Findings were published earlier this month in the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society
Interesting huh?

My 80 year old mother has dementia and she has become very paranoid. I know that might sound funny because oftentimes paranoia is used in strange ways to define people, but I really mean it.

I was just thinking this weekend about throwing EVERYTHING away I wasn't using. Then, last night I asked on here about help with my lower arm hurting from the computer. They advised me to get a brace for my arm. A few years ago, I broke my wrist and wore a brace. Guess what! I kept it! And I remembered where it was from just going thru a drawer. NOW what do I do???? lol Should I throw everything away ..or keep everything? You never know what you might need...like an arm brace. "What a revoltin' development this is!"..(Remember "The Life of Riley"??) lol

I'm a senior who has been 'lurking' around this group for a while. I held off for a bit as I was disappointed to see a lot of 'troll talk' and even some back 'n forth nastiness. Most of those in this group, however, seem to be very nice and here to have a bit of fun and companionship. I can go for that! I'm retired and most definitely fall into the senior catagory. My wife and I have been married for almost 41 years. Care to have someone join in?

I was bullied, and it was just the last straw. I fought a girl with my arms going like a windmill. Not proud of it.

Ok, you will all know my age now. I remember when me and my best friend used to turn on
her record player and play
"celery stalks at midnight"
and the "boogie woogie blues"
and we learned to do the
"dirty boogie". You don't want
to see how that goes....
or maybe you do. I lost touch
with her and don't know if she's dead or alive.
And my question is: Anyone
remember these or other
boogie songs from that time
period?

I always wonder how life will be in older age, so these questions are to retirees and senior citizens.

Do you still have fun and get excited over things? What do you do in leisure time? Do you feel depressed for being your age? Are you afraid you won't live much longer? Do you feel like years pass way too fast? Do you have any regrets for life path and choices?

Answer the questions you choose. Thanks!

I'm beginning to feel like a pushover in handling my business. I was asked to draw a piece of artwork for someone and haven't been paid for it yet. My friend told me that I'm too nice, and I have to be more aggressive in order to succeed in any business. It's not in my nature to be mean, but I'm beginning to think that maybe she's right.

I do not like being on a site where I have absolutely NO IDEA what I did wrong!

I have participated in various forums on the internet for years and know how to phrase things so as not to cause dismay among others...so....I guess this one just won't work for me.
