hi, I quit smoking 7 years ago. I think it is not a great deal but a effective planning coupled with will force which helped me to get rid of this dangerous habit. In 1999 I used to smoke at least 48 cigarettes a day, but one day I really felt very disgusted about this. So I took a piece of paper and made a plan, 7 am to 11 pm --All total consumed 48 cigarettes. so per hour I smoked 3 cigarettes. Then I did the next day's planning. Every hour 2 cigarettes, and not 3. Then the next day--3 cigarettes every 2 hours. In that way I wrote down almost a month's plan and effectively reducing smoking day by day. Then from the next day, I started to follow the plan religiously and I did not feel any great problem to gradually and routine wise reducing smoking. And truly after the month I did not feel the urge to smoke again. I am sure if you follow this plan, you will also be able to quit smoking. Best of luck.

Good for you! I am proud of you. I started smoking at 12 and smoked until I was 48 and had a blood clot in my heart. After the surgery I didn't smoke for three years. Then my Dad moved in and a couple of months later my younger brother moved and they both smoked. I ended up smoking again and it is sooo hard to quit. I used to smoke Marlboro Red 100's, now I smoke Marlboro Light 100's. I am trying to quit though. Sooner than later.

I quit in August of 2003 after a fifty year habit which had gotten me up three+ packs a day. The last brand I smoke was a generic menthol light cigarette which I bought at the military commissary. I started out with Pall Mall and Viceroy, then went on to Salem, before settling on my last brand.

I quit two years ago. I smoked Marlboro back in the day, Virginia Slims menthol, and finally Capri' Ultra Light Menthol.
I loved those slender little Capri's as I have small hands and it
was great for me. Sometimes, when I got down to the end of the cig I would get funny looks...as if maybe it WASN'T a cig I was smoking. I still miss them at times but thank goodness don't crave them anymore.

Viceroy, Winston, Marlboro, Old Gold, Camels, Lucky Strikes, Pall Malls, Dorals, Salem Menthols, rolled my own with Drum, still huffing away with Marlboro Ultra Light 100's--I will die from it but when I quit in the past it was a toss of between lungs or obesity, neiither is fun so I just went back to smoking--ugly but hey we smokers have paved half the roads in the US. Now they want us to foot health care.

Started at 15...smoked OP's [other people's] until I began smoking my parents' brand...Kent

Then in college began smoking Salem, then switched to Benson and Hedges Menthol, then Benson and Hedges Menthol Lights.

Last month I switched to Va. Slim Menthol Lights [unfortunately still smoking]

Lord, I started out on Newport cigarettes, kept getting sick to my stomach about 3AM at the bridge table...someone suggested it was the menthol, so I switched to Winstons...no more stomach problems. Then I went to Benson Hedges...after a year, started with migraines, back to Winstons...about 1 year, and migrains again..went to Kents...that one lasted for about 5 years, then headaches again...switched to Vantage...no more headaches. Tried Barclays, sore throat! Back to Vantage. About 12 years ago, I became a master of quitting smoking...I have more experience in quitting smoking that all of you put together. The patches work wonders...for about 7 months, I didn't smoke, but I put on 35 pounds...the doctor told me I was within 15 pounds of being in as bad a condition as smoking! And I hated being fat...so back to smoking. Lost the weight (it didn't come off as easily as it went on, that I will tell you). And since that time, I have quit, oh...50 times! I really can quit very well... for about 3 weeks..then something happens to give me an excuse (any excuse in a storm works) and "oh, just one cigarette cannot hurt me......" well, we all know the story. I am batting in at 66, cigarette in hand, puffing away while writting this (very glamorous, you will have to admit, so adult...I feel like a grown up when I smoke!) and so very sexy (don't you just love the smell of stale smoke on clothing and is there anything better than smoker's breath?) I am so very proud of myself and my will power! Very few thing in life have made me feel a failure..but quitting smoking is right up there at the top...I feel like an idiot right now..so thanks a lot, Granny! And to top that off, I now feel totally excluded from the group, since "most of us have quit smoking." Next time you ask a question, take your shotgun off the wall and fire two warning shots into my head first! :-)

Kent
Pall Mall
Luckies
Marlboro
Then started rolling my own with American spirit for years and years
now I smoke a pipe
Amphora is the only widely sold tobacco I actually like much
but we have shops around here that get good tobacco and I buy their private blends
matter of fact I got a bowl going now

in this order:
salems
salem lights
merit mentols
merit menthol lights
basic menthol lights
basic menthol ultra lights
and then the patch, and then clean for a few years...
I started smoking again after we invaded afghanistan...
quit again,in 2004.
I STILL want a cigarette.
but since I know I cannot smoke A cigarette without wanting to smoking ALL the cigarettes,I gues I will not smoke one.

hey GW---it was easier for me to give up booze than cigs!in fact I have heard more than one HEROIN addict say that quitting smoking was tougher than giving up drugs. It really is the mother of all addictions, lol
