You have 4 weeks until November, and the murder case, if you are selected, is not likely to take that long.
Edit:
Do not lie when being interviewed, that is also against the law and you can be fined.
Serving on a jury is a serious responsibility, sure we don't want to do it, but it's very important for the way our society operates. Doing your civic duty is much more important than looking at beautiful trees.

Have you actually been chosen or are you part of a pool? If you've already been selected, then you should serve. If you're still in the pool and not selected, you need to show up but you may be let go early.
The only time I was called for jury duty, I was scheduled to be there on the day my business was opening. A brand new business, nothing like it in town, advertising had been out for weeks, etc. The judge told me I'd just have to open another day. I ended up sitting around all day just in case I was to be selected. It was costly to me, non-productive for anyone, even though I said I'd come at any future date. Now I don't mind doing my civic duty, but keeping me sitting around for what became a day and a half was hardly productive. I ended up paying someone to be in the new office who knew nothing about the new business. Again, I would have served any other time and it's not like there weren't 50 other people sitting around with me.

Can you go the weekend before? I finished jury duty, I was called but not chosen on a jury.
How do you know it is a murder case? They are not allowed to tell you anything and the attorneys will ask you questions about certain feelings, what your family members do, what your job is, do you have a relative involved that a case like this. Then the plaintiffs attorney or the defendants attorney can discharge you
**The computer that picks jurists likes me, I have been chosen and went 3 times already in 2 years . I could have gotten out since you only have to serve 1 time in 3years, but I liked It it was interesting

If I were you I would go and you may not even be picked. If your not in a pool and have already been chosen as a juror, they will send the nice ly dressed U.S. Marshalls to come looking for you and in Michigan if you do not show up it is 90 days in jail with a $5,000 dollar fine. The Fall colors will reach there peak in 2or3 weeks but I would seriously want to be looking at them from outside and not from inside a jail cell.
Who knows if your in a pool, you may not get picked but if you already know it is a Murder trial then it sounds like you have already said all the right things those lawyers wanted to hear from you and your on the jury, Just Go. We don't want to see you go to jail or have a large fine to pay which in that case you may using that money you would have used to go to Missouri with. When it really comes down to it, it is your choice and your choice alone. I just really hope you make the right one.

I know me too! NOV. 1 and I don't know what to do. I'm in an akward situation and people always think that your some kind of loser trying to get out of something that is your duty....I wish that they understood that not everyones lives are that open to change for something like this. I'm sure there are a lot of retired people or ones who feel more strongly about serving their country . Go ahead I'll move over! Maybe if america operated more like france and give you 10 weeks off a year then I'll go ......... ya know

I really don't know what to say. Maybe if you go on with jury duty, you can still make it to Missouri in time to see the beautiful trees.

if you refuse to go. you could be fined. unless you have a really good reason the judge believes, he wont let you off. tell him you think he is guilty and should be prosicuted, that people who committs murder are bad. may be that will help, some times it does. but if you dont show up they will put a warrent out for you.

Don't mean to be rude, but I would rather serve on a murder trial than go to MO.
