Oh, for the old days when modesty was a good thing and not something to be shunned and mocked.

It would appear so since all you have to do is go to any movie and women and/or men naked or nearly so, they are jumping into bed with people they hardly know, and when was the last time you saw a movie in which the couple were married before they started living together.
I don't know about you but I don't think that society has improved because of all this since many young people are copying the behavior they see in Hollywood. It is not good for children to be born without fathers to help raise them. Young people stay immature and irresponsible well into their twenty's...or longer. Girls are wearing clothing to school that street walkers would have blushed to have had on 40 or 50 years ago. Society has coarsened and I can tell you from personal experience, that it is not an improvement.
A lot more than modesty has been thrown out the window, so has honor, integrity, decency, respect, honesty, humility, and a whole host of other "old fashioned" attributes.
"Good riddance" indeed!!

There are some differences, but I'm not convinced that modesty has been "thrown out".

There has alway been surly people. So, attitude-wise, this is nothing new. I encounter respectful and pleasant young adults and teenagers everyday, and the 'rebels' too. I remember how irritated my parents would be when the 'muscle cars' and 'hogs' drove by our house.....those rude teenagers!

I don't see today's fashions as any more shocking than what we did. Maybe one change is that 'dress codes' have relaxed a tad.....however, it still isn't "anything goes anywhere".

I'm sitting here remembering some of the names and outfits of female characters in the older "James Bond" films, and wondering if we Boomer were ever modest....;)

I would guess that everyone has their own memory of styles of dress, behavior, speech etc from back in the day.

For me, even the mini skirt and so-called see through blouses [still worn with underwear] were not nearly as 'troublesome' as what I see worn in the schools, workplace; on the streets and in the media today.

I believe that decorum is the better word....one's underclothing; breasts; derrieres; and areas too close to the genitals were not meant for public exposure. Dressing as such is provocative and may often send an unintended message.

Remembering my Dad shopping with me and discussing the difference between a woman's sensual clothing and sexy clothing....e.g., for a formal when I was in college, he helped me pick out a gown that had the entire front covered with a mandarin type collar and the back to the waist only, exposed...gorgeous dress...vs. one with boobs hanging out or cut to below the navel.

I have always tried to dress in the manner in which I wish to be taken...respectfully, admiringly though, and not necessarily trendy but stylish and suiting me and my body and personality

No I consider myself a very modest lady in all ways. I think some of the young ones are dreadful. They might as well walk around naked they have so few clothes on. And their attitude is just as bad.

That depends on how you define "Modesty". We came from the age of hip huggers, mini skirts, see through blouses, go go dancers and burning the bra. Modesty is also based on your culture.

The lost element to many of our now world wide problems is,
SELF RESPECT-----To thy own self be true.
Double messages & standards confuse our youth more then
ever before. It is a sad concern.
