I have a co-worker that says this all the time. I can't help but feel, if you have to throw that little statement in with almost everything you say; maybe you are a little racist. Or should I say ignorant and going more on what you hear than what you have experienced for yourself. What are your thoughts?

I guess I'll provide a generalized example of my own race. Being an Asian, sometimes I am really annoyed by certain Asians trying to "act smart" or are actually smart and think that they are better than regular joes and people who don't go to school. They even expect me to be that way, and when I'm not the "stereotypical geeky asian" they expect me to be it feels like I'm left out. Sometimes, they just proclaim that they are good in academics and want a prestegious job, like in the medical field, when actually they don't even care about school that much and are just doing it to fit in. Is it just me, or do you also sometimes feel that people within your race wants to support stereotypes of your own race ? Are you bothered by it?

If the ancient egyptians were not Africans then the non-african population would have existed somewhere other than africa before migrating to Egypt. But where is the great civilization that would pre-dates egypt that contains all the knowledge egypt was built upon? Where is the great pyramid outside of Africa?

If the Arabs were the original builders of the pyramids why did they wait until migrating to Africa to build them?

I do not hate Barack Obama because he is black or anything(I don't hate him at all). I just think that having a black president would be horrible for our society. I mean you see all the looting and rioting that happens when the Lakers win a big game or there is a natural disaster. I can't imagine what would happen if we had a black president(or part black).

I've seen many people who have racist or discriminant parents or relatives yet they themselves were able to break out of it. They were once racists as well due to the influence gained by adults. I think we all got some racism in us even if we aren't being racist right now, we can always become one anytime due to some reason.

Due to my parent's influence, I never thought of a interracial relationship but now I am up for it and support it with anyone. Such as if I see couples of any race combination, I smile. I dislike how I thought back then, for me it was thinking out of the box that helped me. What made you break free from extreme racist influence?

Thanks for reading.

Does it bother you when people say "that white girl," "that asain chick," or "that one black girl?" Even though they don't mean it in a bad way, does it bug you? I've noticed so many teenagers say that during school. I get called these all the time because of my race and religion, and it doesn't really effect me. I think it's just a matter of respect. What are your views on this?

Why is it politically incorrect to ask a soldier that has been to war if they killed anybody or how many people they killed while they were at war?? I understand that it may be insensitive, but that is partly their job. So it seems like a rational question. If they can't deal with killing or the questions afterward then maybe they shouldn't sign up for a job that may require killing people.

I don't understand something, so maybe someone could help me out here. I live in a predominately African American area of the US. All the time on the news, you hear from the African American community that they don't have equal rights and they are looked down upon, etc. First....we have so many names of things and holidays and even a WHOLE MONTH dedicated to Black History and historical figures....where is the month dedicated to the rest of the history of the US? And why is it that when I go to EVERY Wal-Mart, Target, KMart, etc., around here looking at Christmas things that EVERY plastic Santa is black? There is a whole endcap of black baby dolls, and EVERY nativity scene is of a black Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus? Does the world not understand that Santa (which the "idea" of Santa stemmed from St. Nicholas who was from Asia Minor-meaning...he's not of African descent) and that Mary, Joseph and Jesus were not African...they weren't white either. He was born in Judea.)

so i was watching Law and Order SVU a while ago and since we are learning about race and ethnicity it made me think of it.

there is a boy sitting next to the detective.

The boy is part of a white supremicist group and the detective is african american.

so the boy says something like well at least i didn't draw the short end of the genetic stick and the detective says its been proven there is no genetic difference in races. your heads been filled with crap since you were born.

so was the boy right? its there a difference in genetics? or was the detective right? is there not?

no judging on what was said i just want an answer to the question.

Just based off of the questions asked and the answers received here, it seems as if many of the non-Blacks here hold stereotypical views of Black women. Why do you think people think most Black women are like this?

I would like to know, because the truth is that Black women are amongst the most succesful women in this country. The first female millionaire in this country was a Black woman. I'm pretty sure a Black woman still occupies that top dollar spot as well (Oprah).

So why the stereotypes? Do you watch too many hood movies? Do you only actually know 3 or 4 Black women and have based your opinion off that?

I'm sure the rat pack will give me some lovely answers talking about snapping fingers and necks and etcetera but I'm more interested in actual answers.

What's the deal with "fighting words" statutes? I've heard there's some old-time law that makes it okay to hurt or kill a person if he or she says something really offensive to you. The classic example would be racial slurs. Is this really true?
