Does it bother you when people say "that white girl," "that asain chick," or "that one black girl?" Even though they don't mean it in a bad way, does it bug you? I've noticed so many teenagers say that during school. I get called these all the time because of my race and religion, and it doesn't really effect me. I think it's just a matter of respect. What are your views on this?

Wow, I just got several emails of people hatin, calling me a "racist white girl."
Oook.
1) I'm not white, I'm Russian.
2) I'm not being racist. I didn't single out any race or ethnicity in my question. I'm the least racist person I know! lol
I hate stereotypes. Just because someone is from another background, they aren't racist!! Why can't the world just live in peace?

In my middle school, I was "that ugly tall black girl."
Bad times.
It only bothers me if I know the person. Like I had this friend whose dad couldn't be bothered to call anyone who wasn't white by their name. He used to call me "The Sista." Because I was his son's only black friend.
One other thing that bothers me is when people are talking about me while I'm there and they refer to me in the third person or as if I wasn't there. For example, I had this friend whose friend whom would never speak to me directly. Like if they were talking about going somewhere, she would say, "Your friend can come if she wants." She always would say things like that and I just wanted to ask her, "Why can't you speak to me directly?" but I didn't want to be rude or be "oversensitive."
I get you though. Sometimes the way people say things about others, you can hear the hatred in their voice. Instead of it coming out as "that white girl" or "that black chick," it comes out as "THAT white girl" or "that BLACK chick." Then you start wondering...

No. If they said something like "that asian chick in my class is such a ******" I wouldn't care because it's not me and they're just using the asian part as a description. I wouldnt care either if someone called me asian guy. I think for many people, it's offensive once people start to generalize. When someone says, "black people, white people, latins, or asian people are this and this and da da da da da" thats when it gets offensive.

Better to say " that black girl", instead of "That N*****r B****h". You can choose to take offense at whatever people do, or don't do, or say. I have been called all sorts of nasty things, and do not take offense. People calling me things does not make me what they call me. Some people will respect you, and others won't, no matter what you do, or don't do, or whether you choose to take offense, or not. Usually people call you things to control you...to make you do, or feel, what they want you to. I let no one have such control over me, so I do not react.

Yes. That can be offensive sometimes...why not just "that girl". I even think that statement is disrespectful but it is better than "that black, white, asian, etc. girl". Some people just don't have a very expanded vocabulary so they are making themselves look stupid...not you.

Not really. It's just a way to identify someone like "the redhead" or "the tall girl". In this sense, skin colour is just another convenient physical characteristic to tag people with.

Its all influence from the media thats why we're all like this. I don't really care if someone says that "Asian dude" since I can't fix that. If they called me a "chink" then thats a different story.
