good question! it's all ethnocentrism, thinking that their ways are better than the practices of other cultures. You can't force change. It has to occur gradually and within the context of that cultural environment.

THEY DO!!! Its all part of the governmental bargaining chips. If another country wants something from the USA badly enough, they will agree with ALOT of things to get what they want. Problem is that "agreeing" to do something and ACTUALLY DOING IT after they get what they want, are two different things. There are horrible things happening every second in many third world countries that people in usa will never even know about. Why? Because those places do not have dealings with USA so our government can not attempt to play GOD with them in the USA public eye.

You're right. When we visit another country, we are guests in that country. We should respect their laws, culture, people, etc. It's very difficult to suggest change diplomatically, however, we should speak up especially on issues concerning human rights, religious rights, etc.

Miriam hit the nail on the head. We've actually touched on this in other classes. The American Sense of Mission. Sound familiar?
