I've seen many people who have racist or discriminant parents or relatives yet they themselves were able to break out of it. They were once racists as well due to the influence gained by adults. I think we all got some racism in us even if we aren't being racist right now, we can always become one anytime due to some reason.

Due to my parent's influence, I never thought of a interracial relationship but now I am up for it and support it with anyone. Such as if I see couples of any race combination, I smile. I dislike how I thought back then, for me it was thinking out of the box that helped me. What made you break free from extreme racist influence?

Thanks for reading.

Sorry to blow your theory but I have often heard from my Parents, "Extreme, We didn't raise you to be a racist!" I became what I am through experience. Not from my parents.
Due to the fact I can out debate both of them on the "Racist" subject, We no longer argue about it because far to often they have to agree with me and I am man enough to just let the subject drop rather than rubbing their faces in it.

People break out of racism when they step out of the shire and comingle with ppl that don't look like them. When ppl are only around ppl that look like them and hear stories and watch TV they believe these things are justified. Everyone needs to leave their own little corner of the planet and realize that most ppl just want to live their lives in peace. The problem is the fear that ppl have.

For me, it's always been my heart. I empathize with others. I wonder how it would feel if....... I think life was and is difficult for some. I wouldn't want to be treated differently just because of my hair/skin/eye color. So I've always treated people equally. That's just me. What hurts me is when people who don't know me treat me unkind just b/c of my hair/skin/eye color. It only reminds me that I am doing the right thing.

i guess it was really unfortunate for you to be brought up in a family and a culture that supported racism...in turn i am lucky that i was brought up to treat people equally regardless of race and social status....

however, i think on my own, in my course through life i have formed my own opinion about racism....i just figured out that people may come in different packages but deep down inside we are all human...we have the same needs, we all have feelings and we are not perfect....i've learned not because one belongs to this race makes him better than me...its more because he is a better person inside (better qualities regardless of skin color) that's why he is better than me....

That's great that you have changed your views and have become more open-minded.

I believe that having a strong will helps along with being a truth-seeking individual. These things allow people to create their own beliefs of the matters at hand regardless of what their family says.

I THINK THAT DISAGREEING WITH HOW YOU WERE BROUGHT UP, AND GOING OUTSIDE THAT REALM IS A VERY POSITIVE STEP, BUT REMEMBER TO TEACH THE CHILDREN TO NOT JUDGE AND BELIEVE WHAT YOU HEAR AND BE A LEADER, NOT A FOLLOWER. YOU HAVE TO TEACH THEM THAT EVERYONE IS TREAT AS AN INDIVIDUAL, NOT A GROUP..... AND REMEMBER THAT CHILDREN ARE THE FUTURE, IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CHANGE AN ADULTS VIEWS BUT A CHILD LOOKS TO YOU FOR GUIDANCE, AND THATS WHERE NEGATIVE INFLUENCE BEGINS!!!!

the best exchange between a prevalent conservative and Peter Griffin is that Peter Griffin is finished with the help of skill of an clever guy poking a snicker at concerns. the prevalent conservative will prefer to be taken critically of their questionably-sane rants of discrimination and contradictory statements.

Probably curiosity. Some people are satisfied with what their parents teach them. Others what to know more.
