I have found that many African Americans attach their own context to innocent statements made about their heritage. An example that I gave in a previous question had to do with the fact that I told my co-worker that she is amazingly pretty and amazingly African in her looks. This comment upset her. I asked opinions on Y!A and many earnest answers expressed unhappiness with any comment about their race. One young lady said that she was insulted when her boyfriend calls her his "little black angel". Why do people attach a negative connotation to the celebration of their ethnicity? Even the younger generation seems to feel this way. What is inherently bad about being of African descent? I don't get it

I notice when I was in Newton( a rich suburb), Dedham(rich suburb) and Wellesly( rich suburb). I seen a lot of whites wearing sandals in light rain. They wore flip-flops in drizzling rain
IS IT A RICH KID THING OR A RACE THING?
I have NEVER seen blacks, asians or latinos do that!

If you read my previous question I said that I'm enrolled in several AP classes. And there are very few Blacks, Asians, and Latinos in these classes. In one of my Ap classes, there are 2 black girls including me, 2 Hispanic guys, and 3 Asian kids out of 25 white kids. The thing is that it seems like we don't ever sit with the white kids or work with them we always stay with people of color and vicce versa. We all get along but it seems like we just like to stay with only minorities. Do you think this is wrong? I'm not racist and neither are they it's just that we don't really hang out with the white kids in our class.

Would affirmative action be better off if it was based on class or disadvantage instead of race? In the past, black or other minority people use to be synonymous with being poor and disadvantage, but today there are affluent people of all races that exist in our society. There are also plenty of white people, who are poor and fall into a permanent underclass, who would like a chance to move up. Orphans come in all colors. I don't think there is nothing wrong with helping disadvantage people who want to help themselves, but maybe we should change the criteria from race based affirmative action to a class base one.

Who did your parents (or guardian) listen to while you were growing up? Did listening to their music place a subliminal effect on your musical preference?

My Mom listened to Kenny Rogers, Rod Stewart, and Diana Ross etc...My Dad listened to anything Jazz or R'n'B related.

I'm guessing that their taste in music subliminally affected my taste in music somehow and that's not a bad thing......I adopted similar tastes; modernized within my own generation. (If that makes any sense.)

What about you?

I'm 16 years old and I'm very outgoing, I'm smart and I'm very unique. At my school i'm in advanced placement and there are mostly white kids in my classes and I'm almost always the only black person in that class and the white guys would look at me but they wouldn't talk to me or anything. I know there is nothing wrong with the way I look because many people say that I have a nice body and a beautiful face. White guys what's up? I don't mind being with a white guy, I like all types of guys.

I am from a country in SE Asia and I was surprised when I saw the questions in Answers: A lot of 14-year-olds have boyfriends or girlfriends and some even have sex. I am surprised because this is uncommon in my culture. Can anyone tell me what is the "legal" age to date in Asia?

I would like to say for all those who disagree, I'm here to agree. I did not say anything except shorterr, not all black people are rascist against others. Did that make it clear? I believe we are all created as equals, simply telling that person not all black people as they said "attack" other people. Here is where it ends. I'm done becuase you don't understand I'm not here to justify, speaking for my friends here and me.

I'm white and I try my hardest to have zero contact or interaction with the people of your race. In the past when I had dealings with you and yours, the issue of race has always come up and I felt cornered. Any reasoning that I brought fourth was never considered and I was denied the right for fairness. Why do you not give white individuals a fair shake?

I had honestly never come across this before until a couple days ago while being trained in a certain area of the store I work at. The sales associate kept going on about paint fumes causing birth defects (?), meanwhile apologizing to me the entire time since I was supposedly a victim of such who was also developmentally challenged, neither of which I have ever been. This was all because I am slightly shorter than average. No one else to my knowledge has made any issues of it. She spent more time apologizing than actually teaching anything.

Please not that I said "ghetto". I'm not trying to offend anyone. There are people of all races that talk that way. I don't actually think there's anything wrong with it at all, but I have made an observation that people that speak like tend to end sentences with that phrase.

Are they not confident that you've understand them?

I've come up with a new drinking game: Watch the white rapper show on VH1. Everytime somebody says that phrase, take a shot.
