First, bravo to you for having the ability and EFFORT required for advanced placement work. I am so proud of you!!!! I am sure you are proud of your efforts, if you stop to think about them!
As for your question, I have walked your path in high school, college, grad school, the workplace, and even in my neighborhood. DO NOT FEEL BAD for wanting the comfort of someone with shared cultural references. That, in reality, is the reason you sit together. You do not have to explain everything to your African American friends. Even your Hispanic and, to some degree, Asian friends have similar cultural experiences. I am fairly certain just from reading your question you do not exclude white people. However, let's be a little real. Which group of people do you find OVERALL more accepting of you? That's the group to which you will likely gravitate!
So, my dear African sister on the rise, place your energy on the classwork itself. Understand the social dynamics that you have questioned, and then move on! Do not let anyone or anything drain the energy you need for success.
Prepare strategies for dealing with this situation now and in the future. Be assured that there are good people of every ethnic group, but racism (classism, sexism, ___ism, you name it) will pose obstacles that you'll need to overcome.
Good luck!!! Now please open your textbook to page ....

i imagine that there continuously has, and continuously will be segregation basically for the actual undeniable truth that as residing creatures, we are stressed to be interested in ( i'm not talking about sexual attraction ) and oftentimes have more desirable believe for human beings/ issues maximum resembling us. The segregation i'm talking about of route isn't the formal theory which may be in protecting with say, whites having their own bathing room and blacks having their own bathing room. i'm talking interior the experience that guy will continuously certainly have a tendency to flock in the route of the individuals who he can see similarities on the instantaneous which mainly will be pores and skin coloration. Granted, I do imagine that racism and segregation is actual death down, regardless of the indisputable fact that the actual undeniable truth that there are a procedures more desirable white human beings then black human beings, we basically see genuine racial blending mainly parts truly than interior the full united states of america. at the same time as the races are divided a lot more desirable both, segregation will be on the on the bottom aspect yet as of now in a united states of america the position 80% of the each and every man or woman is white, we may be able to not tell if segregation is really going away. -Rick

I think this is due to comfort. People tend to feel more comfortable around people who resemble them and people they feel they can relate to better. I don't necessarily think anyone who does this is racist...but I would say you should try breaking away from your comfort zone. There is a lot be gained from speaking with and dealing with people of other cultures and backgrounds. You can relate to the people that are like you, but if you never deal with any other people you'll be losing out. I find it to be very interesting to meet people from other countries. The next time you are in a situation where you can choose the more comfortable road or perhaps learn something from someone new try the second option. You might just meet someone who is very interesting and has more in common with you than you thought.

I don't think you are wrong. We all gravitate to people we are comfortable with. If a person who is not of color approached you and you ignored or gave them a hard time just because they are white, then I think you would be wrong.

Ever wonder why so little blacks in your class??? My guess is that your mixed and that's why you had the brains to even get in that class!! To your other question some white guys don't mind black girls as long as they have white features,in general we don't like the pure bread ones!

sometimes you dont really need to try to hang out with a specific group. but if it bugs you that you dont, try to talk to one of the white kids. you are not racist for who you hang with though.

it's not wrong. human tends to stick with their own. If the class was full of men, and 5 women ALL THE WOMEN WOULD STICK TOGETHER!
YOUR EXAMPLE IS SELF-SEGREGATION NOT FORCED SEGREGATION!
