Who did your parents (or guardian) listen to while you were growing up? Did listening to their music place a subliminal effect on your musical preference?

My Mom listened to Kenny Rogers, Rod Stewart, and Diana Ross etc...My Dad listened to anything Jazz or R'n'B related.

I'm guessing that their taste in music subliminally affected my taste in music somehow and that's not a bad thing......I adopted similar tastes; modernized within my own generation. (If that makes any sense.)

What about you?

If you understand my question, you'll notice where I mentioned my musical preference is MODERNIZED.

I don't listen to their music! For example by dad's taste for jazz....I think it influence me in an edgy way...such as like having an appreciation instrumentally for techno/trance music . GET IT?

I love the music my parents used to play in my childhood...although at the time I hated it. Its nice to hear music that can bring you back to your childhood. As far as my tastes go, I would say they did affect me. I love listening to oldies now...even though I'm only 22. I find that its a nice break from modern music to hear old Spanish songs or other oldies. Listening to my parents' music has shown me that its best to give different types of music a chance. So in that respect, I am more open to other types of music...and I enjoy lots of different types of music.

Well my parents love music they've listened to while growing up.... Most of what they listen to is not my taste (only some of the good gold oldies).

I got my music taste from tv, radio, etc.... and I'm still not an average joe when it comes to music... because lots of the modern weird songs are not my taste...

However, my mom likes some of what we listen to and actually enjoys the 'modern songs', but dad doesn't at all!

Yes absolutely. When my mom would come home from work on hard days, a Scotch and some BB King were top of the menu. I developed a love of the blues from her. Later om somehow I soaked up the Rat Pack and Mel Torme, even though I don't really remember her listening to them.

At minimum a person becomes very aware of the music his/her parents enjoy.

My mother loves opera. when I listen to Puccini, I get the feeling that she enjoyed the music when she was pregnant with me. so, I heard the music and was affected by all her good hormones. I like popular music, the oldies, good rock, etc., but Puccini's music sends me to heaven.

Do you think this is possible?

My family listened to country music when I was growing up, I still like country, but I prefer to listen to various forms of rock myself. I was more influenced by my husband's taste in music.

i'd have to say no. not much music played in our house while i was growing up.sometimes my mom and i would listen to old 78's and that was fun but i wound up listening to my own stuff. ironically i have very similar tastes as my dad and older bro. with whom i did not listen to music. i guess its just in the gene pool.

I suppose to an extent. My mom enjoys her generation pop and i like my generation pop. While my dad was into the "rebellious stuff" and I love alternative rock. But (thankfully) their taste for classical has not rubbed off on me!
