My mom is 89 yrs old and lives in Vallejo, California and I live in Los Angeles. I just came home from a weeks visit. She needs help and someone to visit with her. A couple of years ago some young men from either the Mormons or Jehov. Witness came around and mowed her lawn. Can anyone tell me who to call where they will come and visit and help her for free? She doesn't have alot of money. Names and phone numbers will be greatly appreciated.

I ask this question, because I want to see how many people actually know of a community service near them, that ISN'T a national chain. I want names also.

I am a salaried non-exempt employee - I am paid hourly - my manager sets goals for me and based upon my attainment of these goals I receive an increase in pay. She has set the goal of doing volunteer work in the community on my own time. Is this legal? She told me I could not receive a full raise because I didn't do this volunteer work. Can she legally mandate me to work and not pay me?

Violence is the #1 affect of death in our communtiy. Did anyone hear about the liitle 4 year old girl Jasmine Owens who was shot in the head Monday night by a drive by shooter. This hits home for everyone in every community. Rather you have children or not, ENOUGH SHOULD BE ENOUGH!!!!!! It's sad that an innocent baby had to lose her life for someone else's ignorance. How do you feel about our babies being the victims now? What do you think needs to be done in our communities now?

some kids in my neighborhood need to raise a minimum of $300 for a trip(not a school trip). Here are the circumstances:1.none of the schools will help out in any way
2.none of the parents will help either
3.they need the money in less than two months
4.everyone in the neighborhood is very poor
5.charity and bake sales dont work
6.nobody wants to donate anything
and 7.there are no small jobs or activities(baby sitting, car washing)for the kids to get money from

How would they raise enough money in time?

Everyday we are expected to mostly be selfish. Let's go out and do something to make the world a little bit better today.

How about some suggestions.

Here are mine
1. Pick up some rubbish in a public place
2. Donate money to charity
3. Compliment a stranger (clothes, or actions...but don't use it as a pick up line).
4. Help someone at the supermarket
5. Smile nicely to someone

More ideas please

All I know is that they help children with cleft palettes and cleft lips, and that they give all the money to the surgeries and keep none of it. Anyone know anything else?

I'm participating in a charity drive soon to raise money for a children's hospital. I don't want people to feel pressured, but is that just an occupational hazard of raising money for charities.

what makes a neighbourhood unsafe/safe? I am mainly wanting to know about the city of Toronto, but information on any city would be fine. What makes a neighbourhood a high priority/risk area?
I would appreiciate personal opinions as well as statristics. I also like links to other websites.

People sentenced to prison should perhaps have the chance or opportunity to get their sentence reduced in return for some good service to the community. Organ donation after death might perhaps be worth a reduction in sentence. What do you think? Registration for organ donation would, of course, have to be irrevocable if the prison sentence is reduced.

NJ Family needs financial help to get out of trouble. Yes, they are great people who've been through a difficult time. Mom was hospitalized twice this year and has been unable to continue working--Dad is a hard working blue collar guy. They live paycheck to paycheck and without Mom's income, things are going downhill fast. Other family members have been contributing for the last 9 months, but they too are now stretched. The house is up for sale and they are looking to move to the NC area--hoping to get a fresh start in an area where the housing market will be in their favor. Any cash donations at this point will help with the essentials such as car repairs, dental work, doctor bills, food, etc. I will be happy to provide more details including names, addresses, etc. if you are serious about being a donor to a family in need. Just reply to this post and I'll be sure to follow up with you. Thank you in advance for your help!
