To start, you would have to have at least an Associates degree in Human Services or Sociology. And most places only take Masters level degrees for social workers.

Well, the first question I would ask you would be: do you have your MSW (Master's of Social Work) degree? You're not going to have a lot of options open to you beyond volunteer work if you do not.
If you already have a bachelor's degree (doesn't matter in what, but sociology would be great) then you can apply to any MSW program in your university or college near you.
I know that Portland State University in Oregon has one of the best MSW programs in the country. Just a search online or check the website of the college near you to find out if they have a program available.
If you already have your MSW, then you may be surprised to know that most classified ads (in larger metro areas) have entire sections dedicated to social workers and their jobs. It would be a good idea to check those ads to see what kind of jobs are available to you.
I think it's great that you have such a volunteering spirit and giving heart, please keep it up!

There is a lot of opportunity for social workers. Why don't you start with your local county? That would be a great place, also, to get more information.
Good luck!
