NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on may 15th

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and let's try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, "Don't pump gas on May 15th"

This has been going around and around forever and it makes NO sense to do this!!

It makes no sense because it doesn't lower demand at all.

If you don't buy gas on May 15th, you're just going to buy that gas on May 14th or on May 16th. You're still using the exact same amount of gas.

The only way this would work is if we all didn't USE gas on May 15th, and walked, biked, or took the bus to work. That would reduce demand (though not by that much).

Not buying gas on May 15th - if I was a gas station owner, I'd just raise prices on May 16th! Because I'd potentially have double the customers that day.

And it won't hurt the oil companies at all.

Yeah right, it's not going to make a huge impact...because we all need gas to go to work, and I don't buy on the 15th, I'll need to buy it on the 17th....

some guy sent me an email to stop buying gas from a certain gas station and it won't work also. If they lower the price, then more people will pump at their station, in thus raising the price to it's original $3.50 a gallon.

I'm just being realistic

The only way to reduce cost is to reduce LONG TERM use. We need to reduce consumption and dependency, not just boycott the gas stations for one day. People will just fill up today or Wednesday, which means the same amount of gas is being sold - boycotting for one day will do NOTHING. There was NO successful 'gas out' in 1997 either.

No, I think higher gas prices are better for the environment, especially since they seem to spur investment in alternative fuels. Also they discourage people from buying uselessly large trucks and obnoxiously big SUVs, which pollute more as well as clogging the streets and creating safety hazards for everyone else on the road.

gas prices are still too low. they need to be in the neighborhood of $5 per gallon to have any real impact on the behavior of the consumers.
