My mom is 89 yrs old and lives in Vallejo, California and I live in Los Angeles. I just came home from a weeks visit. She needs help and someone to visit with her. A couple of years ago some young men from either the Mormons or Jehov. Witness came around and mowed her lawn. Can anyone tell me who to call where they will come and visit and help her for free? She doesn't have alot of money. Names and phone numbers will be greatly appreciated.

You could contact the local Latter-day Saint Bishop (Mormon), explain the situation and ask for help. If he can't personally help you, he should be able to find someone that can or point you to a contact for help.

Use this website and enter your mother's address, it'll pull up the local LDS meetinghouse and should give you some contact information for the leaders there.

Good luck!

I would suggest at her age that she sell her place and move into an assisted living center where her meals are delivered and she has no lawn to worry about and can watch tv, attend church and listen to music and do arts and crafts all under the same roof with none of the hassle. She is quite old to be alone. Her home should bring her enough cash to let her live out her final days without worry. She could also take her meals in the dining room and meet and talk with other residents. There are many nice ones now. A private small living area and she can decorate to her liking and be safe and secure.

My grandmother lived on her own until her Parkinson's disease got so bad that it was dangerous. She hated giving up her independence. So I understand your difficulties. That said, check with local church groups (her's if she has one), also check with city and county services, many have alot of services available to seniors for little to nothing. I know that in NJ where my parents live, they can get meals on wheels, as well as they can be picked up by a special bus and go to the senior center several times a week for activities and meals. Both of these programs are free due to their ages and medical conditions. They have someone visiting 2-3 times a week with meals on wheels and then they go to the senior center twice a week for dinner.

OK first don't depend on random Mormons or Jehovah. Witnesses to take care of your Mother. Try personally, I mean face to face finding out what resources are available at the City's Senior Center, or nearby church also try meals on wheels that should give you a place to start. You need to personally ck it out to find out what's good or not so good for your Mom. Good luck

Why don't you live with her instead of depending on the free help and kindness of strangers; she's your Mother after all.
