I can think of several ideas like arranging a bake sale. Yard sale. Get in touch with fund raising corporations and sell candy bars or other useful items. Have a car wash.

Is it for you or for a charity? Need more input!
If it really is for a charity, and since you have the time...
1. Collect gently used items and sell them at a rummage sale or two. You might want to wash, paint fix, remodel old broken items for fun. There are tons of magazines to give you ideas on how to use odd items for decorating. I took three bar stools that didn't sell at my husband's aunt's yard sale, painted them, and sold them at my own yard sale for ten dollars each. So you might want to collect stuff people are throwing away, fix them up and sell them. You could have an auction for big items or antiques.
2. "Recycle, recycle, recycle today, instead of just throwing away!"(Blue's Clues, "Blue's Discoveries) At $1.78 per pound, aluminum cans can bring in the bucks. So can glass and plastic bottles. We pick them up at the park, at campgrounds, at the beach, while fishing, and pretty much everywhere we go. We cash in other people's trash all the time to the tune of $30 a month.
3. Start a community garden and sell the produce. People will always need to eat food. Many community gardens are doing brisk business in selling locally raised fresh herbs for cooking, fresh vegetables and fruits. This can be done year after year.
4. Get a group together and work special events. If you have a group of people 15 years and up, and you live in a busy urban area, many of the non-profit groups earn money by working as ushers, ticket takers, and parking lot attendants, and the money they earn goes straight to their non-profit, with no need for special work permits. Call the arenas and theaters for more information.
5. If you are anywhere near Hollywood, New York City, or Orlando, your non-profit group could get paid to be audience members for live tv shows. My high school band earned money for our Europe trip by filling in empty seats in game shows filmed in Hollywood. You can sign up to be extras in movies, and have the money go to your non-profit.
6. If you can do it, cherry up a muscle car and auction it. The automotive tech classes at one of the high schools does this every year, and they raise about $5000 for each vehicle (be sure to have all licensing and smog info for California).
7. A lot of churches hold regular once-a-month socials and dances to raise funds. You know, bake sales, BBQ Tri-tip sandwiches, ice cream nights. At even three dollars a person per gig, you can raise some money and get to know your neighbors at the same time.
Have fun and good luck.
