I need to advertise a volunteer program so that I can:

a-Get names of families/persons in need
and
b-Get donations

Does anyone know where I can do that? I do not have "non-profit" status yet so I can't use volunteer match or guide star. Any other options?

Any input is good. I was thinking about ways I could give something back and want some ideas. Here is my dilema I am just one person poor by todays standard's my husband and I are a young couple doing are best--but have fallen on hard times--times that have led us to apply for food stamps, fuel assistance and Medicaid for our only child who is 1. Slowly but surely we will get back to "normal" sometime. Despite our situation right now I am greatful for our warm, modest, but nice trailer house and the food that we have and our health and I would like to help others out. I don't have alot of money for donations or alot of time for volunteering due to taking care of my young son yet I would like to give back particularly to maybe a domestic violence safehouse or foster children who do not have much or children who are sick and need some cheering up.

Any ideas how a person like me to give back because there are alot of people out there who have alot less than me.

Thank--Jammiegirl

I am married and have a 16 year old and a 13 year old. Every year we struggle to get by. Every year we can't buy any Christmas until tax time. We live paycheck to paycheck. I called the salvation army in my area, but I had just missed it. They already closed the program for this year. Everytime we try to get ahead, something pulls us back down. My husband has been at his job for four years and hasn't gotten a raise yet. We pay more than half of my husband's income for rent and utilities. But we don't qualify for the housing authority (according to them). We file a dispute with them, but haven't heard anything. I can't work because I am constantly getting calls from my kids' schools. If I had a job, the schools would call my place of work pretty frequently. They would fire me real quick for that. Both my boys are in Special Ed Classes. I would just like to give them both at least one really good gift this year. Can someone out there help us please? or point me in the right direction.:(

My heart may be a little bit bigger than my pocket. I watched Oprah, and I felt compelled to reach out and help someone in need. I have a few friends that are willing to help. I can sacrifice a couple hundred (I was saving money for school) for this. What is the best way to multiply my money, or get others to contribute to the cause? Helping and surprising 20 people may be outdoing myself, but that is my goal. PLEASE give me ideas big or small that I can use to reach out to others. Hopefully a small act of kindness and selflessness will have a lifelong affect on someone else.

IDEAS PLEASE? I think this would be a great way to not only spread the Christmas cheer, but the love also!

I had my first child at 17 years of age and he is now getting ready to be fifteen. Alot of learning has been done along the way and there have been both negative and positive outcomes for all of us. Is my mother ever going to realize that I am not her and that not being her is perfectly ok and she can finally relax maybe even retire and let me be MOM for awhile.

I did a search to better understand the difference in the philosophy of republicans and democrats. For the life of me, I can not understand why middle and low income people would vote republican. I have noticed however that the middle income seem to think saying they are republican some how put them higher on the social ladder, when in reality it doesnt. Just so you know, I am not a republican nor a democrat. I vote on the person and where they stand on issues important to me. Let's face it, politicians do not always vote on issues strictly by party lines.

We hear about the adoption of children in Africa, China, and other countries from around the world by Americans, while the US has so many children in need of a caring family.

Besides adopting children, there are other great needs nationally and internationally. These needs include medical help, food, clean water, clothing, education, and the building of houses.

If you were given the opportunity to donate to a national or international cause, which would you gravitate toward?

Hi all : ) I am looking for some interesting ideas for a fundraiser. My 10 month old daughter passed away from SIDS on May 2, 2006. I found that involving myself with SIDS related events, and trying to start my own, is helping me through the grieving process and to remember my baby girl. So far I've come up with the idea of a beef and beer, which is in the works, but I'd like some other ideas that could be executed quicker than planning a full blown-out gathering. I recently heard that the SIDS Foundation are getting that much closer to finding the cause for SIDS and I'm hoping that if enough money is raised, a cause, followed by a cure, will be in the near future, hopefully before my time on earth is done. Thank you for all of your help and advice and I look forward to your answers : )

I've been looking for a place that accepts magazine donations in the Chicago area. My local library only accepts donated books. I don't want to throw them out or recycle them. Since there is a lot of valuable information in them - life lessons, personal finance, fashion, culture, etc. - I think that it would be best placed with a women's shelter or youth center. The bulk of the magazines are Essence, Oprah, and InStyle. Thanks for all suggestions!

My childhood church in Detroit is in a very poor neighborhood and it has been providing FREE community lunch to families in the area who need a helpl. They also provide clothes and toiletries. Recently the Bishop of this great church passed away. His health had been failing for a while and the church has suffered because of it. When going back to my childhood church (where I had not been for years) I noticed how much help the building needed. There is black mold growing in the basement. The basement needs glass block windows (it has been broken into several times through the basement). Is there anywhere I can go to get help with services. The church desperately needs help repairing the building or the community will lose a great asset. Any suggesions???
