I had my first child at 17 years of age and he is now getting ready to be fifteen. Alot of learning has been done along the way and there have been both negative and positive outcomes for all of us. Is my mother ever going to realize that I am not her and that not being her is perfectly ok and she can finally relax maybe even retire and let me be MOM for awhile.

It sounds like that she has a great need to be needed (assuming she helped you a lot during those early years) and having you grown up and moving on could be scary for her thinking you can't survive without her. You must prove to her you have grown and even though you are not like her you can show her that you can do things just as well being who you are. Assure her you will always need her but not as a child but as a grown woman.

I was in a similar circumstance my self. But my mom just recently passed away. And as mothers being able to admit we're wrong is hard. As a daughter admitting that our mother was right is even harder. I think they mean well, but don't realize that they can be so negative sometimes. I loved my mother and I miss her dearly, but sometimes let's be real they get all high and mighty. But just remember that she has always and always will have your back and hang in there. We never grow up in there eyes. Goodluck!!!

If your mother was perfect, then you would probally want to be like her. Since your mother is not perfect (Who is?), then why would you want to be like her? What matters is that you love your child. You have clearly been through a very difficult time raising your child alone. I believe that this fact alone should stand for something. You earned her respect, and now she should give it to you. Good luck!

I would tell her that I am grown, and to let me take care of my own children.

Your question rambled, so I don't know what you want to prove to your Mom, nor do I know what she did that was so bad.

You're in your 30's... act like it.
