I am married and have a 16 year old and a 13 year old. Every year we struggle to get by. Every year we can't buy any Christmas until tax time. We live paycheck to paycheck. I called the salvation army in my area, but I had just missed it. They already closed the program for this year. Everytime we try to get ahead, something pulls us back down. My husband has been at his job for four years and hasn't gotten a raise yet. We pay more than half of my husband's income for rent and utilities. But we don't qualify for the housing authority (according to them). We file a dispute with them, but haven't heard anything. I can't work because I am constantly getting calls from my kids' schools. If I had a job, the schools would call my place of work pretty frequently. They would fire me real quick for that. Both my boys are in Special Ed Classes. I would just like to give them both at least one really good gift this year. Can someone out there help us please? or point me in the right direction.:(

I know exactly where you're coming from. I don't have two nickels to rub together; I've been out of work since I left a job to care for my dying mother and I haven't been able to get one since. That was four years ago. I'm staying with my ex who I divorced 12 years ago, just for a roof over my head. I live on his excess change. I've tried everything to get a job...and have thus far failed. Now, I have to put my daughter-in-laws phone number on my resumes because I don't have a phone. My education is excellent with an AAS, 2 certificates and I'm still struggling.

Maybe the churches can help a bit. I know if I had anything I would surely help you. The second or third shift working when your husband is home is a good thing, too. I would attempt to get a pick-up and go cell phone. You can get them with 100 minutes at a party store around where I live for $15. But you could also get a used T-Mobil and with their cards you can get as little as 36 minutes for $10. That would elevate the calls on the employers telephone.

Sorry I can't help you more...but right now, I can't even help myself.

Take a job 2nd or 3rd shift when your husband is there to help out with the kids. It does not have to be full time, I am sure a part time job would help financially and you can still be there for the kids.

My son was special ed and I got more then my share of phone calls from the schools and I worked around them. It meant early mornings, evenings and weekends.

First your husband needs to find a new job-any place that doesn't give you a annul raise isn't worth it, maybe you could find a job at your boys school-so if they need you you are right there. But about the gifts when i was young i gave my mom a coupon book-i wrote things like do the dishes, clean my room, etc. on it. SO when she needed me to do a chore she gave me that and I'll have to do it. You could do the same w/ your boys instead it could be, no dishes tonight, watching t.v for an extra hour, going to bed one hour later, free pass to the movies, extra helping of desert, etc. Make it something that they'll like and that way when they want something they can hand it to you. It's cheap-all you need is paper and things to decorate it w/ and your boys will love to get a free pass for something they like. Also try try churches, my church has an angel tree where a child name is on it and people buy gifts for them, maybe your local place of worship does something similar.Good-luck!!

( (Giving you a virtual Hug))
Please go to your local church. They will most certainly help you. It does not matter what denomination you may be or affilated with. This is the time of year that alot of churches have programs like ' Adopt- a - Family' . Also, contact Social Services, if you already haven't. Local Fire Departments and police Dept offer gift giving ..

Wishing you the best of luck and also, remeber sometimes the most important part of the holidays is Family- not a material gift. But I understand you totally....
