Any input is good. I was thinking about ways I could give something back and want some ideas. Here is my dilema I am just one person poor by todays standard's my husband and I are a young couple doing are best--but have fallen on hard times--times that have led us to apply for food stamps, fuel assistance and Medicaid for our only child who is 1. Slowly but surely we will get back to "normal" sometime. Despite our situation right now I am greatful for our warm, modest, but nice trailer house and the food that we have and our health and I would like to help others out. I don't have alot of money for donations or alot of time for volunteering due to taking care of my young son yet I would like to give back particularly to maybe a domestic violence safehouse or foster children who do not have much or children who are sick and need some cheering up.

Any ideas how a person like me to give back because there are alot of people out there who have alot less than me.

Thank--Jammiegirl

Its to bad that there aren't more women out there like you. Your question has touched my heart. I too was young and poor with a child to raise. For you to be in a position where you need help and want to do for others is selfless. I wish there were more people in this world like you. The world is a better place because you are in it. God bless you and your family.

Aww thats really sweet. It's kinda hard without lots of time or money but you could volunteer to mentor a child through big brothers big sisters or something like that. I know at least in my state that you can go visit the kid a couple times a week during your lunch break so you wont have to commit to anything after work or whatever and take away time from your son. Or you could bring him with to a hospital or something because I know old people love young kids and babies, so thats an option. Also if you have an animal shelter in your area you could bring him in the stroller and volunteer to walk dogs or something. Hope you can find something!

Alright, so you're on foodstamps - join the club! Me to - my husband lost his job several months ago. He got a new one - Praise God, we just received the 3rd paycheck in a row!!! We will be losing our foodstamp benefits next month. But here is what YOU can do to help someone else out. Find your local Angelfood Ministries distributor - good chance it is a local church - you can purchase a food box for $25 for someone with your foodstamps and donate it. (The box is $60-$90 in food! Make your stamps go a lot farther) I am sure there will be lots of families contacting them for help for the Holidays. Another option is to donate any clothes you or your son have outgrown to your local domestic violence shelter - perhaps you could call the hotline number and they can direct you to the shelter for your area. ALSO contact your local assistance office and ask them how you can give back, I am sure that they will have numbers for agencies - of course they may not know what to do with a person on assistance that once to help someone else ;o) One more thing - go to www.craigslist.com for your local area - people post items needed, you might have something laying around your house that you hardly use that would be a big blessing to someone who could really use it!

Check out this website. I don't have kids but am very busy. This site will match you up with ways you can help given your circumstances. There are a lot you would never think of and there is something for everyone. I think it's great that you still realize how lucky you are. As long as you are this selfless, you'll be happy regardless of your circumstances. Even many wealthy people wish for that!

if you have a extra hour, you could really make a difference in someones day!I work in a nursing home and you would not believe the difference it makes, just to stop what I'm doing and vist with the residents. They are very lonely and when people just stop and say hi,you will get a smile. They love children and some never have any visitors at all.

if you choose cheering up a sick child/children you can read to them
give them coloring books , crayons. coloring markers.
make them a home made card.
If you have someone who will watch your son for a few hours.
you can volunteer at most places .
any child loves to be read too.
