When you give money to a charity, do you check out how well they use your money to actually serve the charitable purpose that they state is the reason they exist? If so, what resource(s) do you use?

For example, I've used the following resources with varying success to find and rate a charity within the United States:

http://www.charitynavigator.org (I like this one)
http://www.guidestar.org/ (Requires free registration)
http://www.give.org (a Better Business Bureau site)

In the United States, charities that have over $25,000 of revenue are required to submit a Form 990 about how they have used money, etc. The GuideStar site seems to have these (and you can get the form without paying anything).

Today was my first time. I had never even thought about it before. I had seen the papers on campus about the drives but never thought about how much it was needed. A friend talked me into it by telling me how very much it was needed. I have a huge fear of needles. : ) I went on the bus, answered some questions, and donated. No problem. I didnt know it was so easy. Its an amazing feeling to know I just saved 3 peoples lives. Why dont more people do it? The girl on the bus said the need all types. How bout it? : ) *muahs*

The world is a big place but still 854 million people across the world are hungry, up from 852 million a year ago. Also Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes--one child every five seconds. World hunger is the most extreme form of poverty, more then 1 billion people in the world get less the $1 a day. With that kind of money you can eat nothing. So what can be done to help world hunger be cured.

There are two very important charities that I am working for and would like this Gentleman to donate to. Last year he donate nearly 3 million to the charities. However, he has mentioned that he would make a HUGE contribution this year if he could have one last fling. Are there any legal issues with this and should the money be deposited before or after the act?

I am opening a Children's hair salon and will be a participant in Locks of Love and Wigs for Kids, where we will give free haircuts to those who donate. We would also like to have information and/or donation box for other causes as well. Is there anyone out there who is looking for new or additional sponsers. Everyone in our area donates to Children's Miracle Network, which I'm sure we will too, but we'd like to be unique and find something that really
wow's ppl when they see we'd like to help.

Hi there...I'm wanting to work with tutoring at-risk youth or organizations that reach juveniles in the court system or foster care. My job is in a similiar field, but looking to do something in addition to. Looking for organizations that support these kids and one that doesn't require endless amounts of training. Thanks!

I would like to find someone who can help me get a grant to restore an old building and turn it into a youth group. The area is in a poverty zone and there is no where for the youth in the community to go. Not a bowling alley, a theater, zero, nothing. This town has plenty of children and just one grocery store, one gas station, a hardware store, and pharmacy. And that's it. There is an old abandoned building (what use to be a bar) which we could have. But it needs to be updated with electric, a roof, furnace etc. The building has great potential and could be restored into a youth group. But since we don't have the money to do this where do I go, who do I talk to, who can I contact, how do I write it up. I've never done this before so I don't know where to start so I could use all the help I can get. Please help!

I need a funky name and theme for my relay for life team. We were "Caped Crusaders" last year and it was really BORING!!! It was our first time.

Relay for Life is an fundsraiser for the Cancer Council. Raising money to help find a cure.

Some from my local Relay last year are:

Pirates of the Carcinoma
Malinoma Missionaries
Kids against Cancer

We don't want to recycle these, but they might give you some inspiration

Please Help!
