There are natural gifts that would enhance public speaking. Good voice tone, being able to think on your feet, and the ability to not get rattled if some little thing goes wrong (as it sometimes will). Mostly however, it is a skill you learn. (and all of the above "gifts" can be developed by most people. What motivates people? If you have a cause you believe in, then you might feel obligated to share it with others. If you are good, you can make money, and I am sure it IS a "high"

I think that folk get the bulk of their language skills from their parents and they then start off as "parent cultivated" public speakers. Other folk need that extra training. It is a skill and as such may contain a "natural art" element, but really its largely nurture not nature which determines public speaking abliity.
People who speak in public may do it for a high, (like a stage performer), but such a medium is a useful way of distributing information, which would probably be the prime motive.
I wonder if a priest might get a "high" from his pulpit?

Public speaking is a cultivated art. People speak for a variety of reasons-faith,greed power or the motive of helping people. some are more naturally inclined while others who are shy have to have a powerful reason to endeavor to public speaking.

Ordinary people are very nervous to speak on a stage.
Even teachers and professors who talk continiously in classes for hours, to their students, cannot face the public.
So the best thing is not to think of the sorroundings and go on talking. I think it needs lot of practice before a mirror. It has to be cultivated. What motivates the speakers is one or the other pressure. Either a need to say something important or people force them to go on the stage to honour them..!

It is part a natural art and part cultivated..You must have something of a gift of speaking..be passionate about your subject and be somewhat charismatic..I have been a public speaker for some time and with the passage of time I have become more comfartable and better at it..But from the very first I was thrilled to speak..the bigger the crowd the better I am..I am not being egotistic in this response, merely attempting to answer from experience....Best of luck to you.

it can be cultivated. the famous orator Demosthenes, who used to stutter and stammer in his child hood had to practise speaking in under ground thinking as if there are several listeners and mastered orator-ship. self confidence and command on the subject are enough to make a person good orator.
